Season four of the ISL may see clubs without star names as the competition expands to a full-fledged league
It is believed that the ISL has scrapped its marquee player rule from 2017-18 season with clubs being under no obligation whatsoever to sign a star name in order to draw the attention of fans. However, should a club wish to sign a marquee player his wages will not be part of the salary cap only if he has been approved by the league body as a star name.
The clubs would now need to allocate resources wisely to sign foreign players who would make an impact and generate interest among fans with their fantastic performances just like how Mendoza and Marcelinho did for Chennaiyin FC and Delhi Dynamos respectively
So the latest set of news indicates that the ISL is going to look like the old I league but with different clubs.
1) No compulsary marquee player
2) 6 Indians to start, next year it may be 7
3) No big name coaches till now like Zico,Roberto Carlos
4) Teams like Mumbai City FC will no longer be able to afford Palladium for 7 months, so back to basic housing
The only difference will be the broadcasting, but with no big names and the novelty factor dying, viewership is bound to fall.So it remains to be seen if the ISL will be successful in season 4.
So only Delhi Dynamos and Mumbai City FC representative will be attending meeting with AFC , ATK and FC Goa Still not sure about it where as clubs like NorthEast ,Chennai , Pune , Kerala has said no the meeting . General belief in these franchise that FSDL will represent them in the meeting, Also clubs are sure that there will be nothing new in this meeting .
Above info also shows that Reliance indirectly or directly invest in many franchise in ISL.
So now Football is in the AFC Court , and now AFC needs to show their balls and take decision which is beneficial for all clubs , Leagues and stakeholder which i am sure they will not take
Just one more day to go before we have the 'Revolutionary' AFC meeting at Kuala Lumpur. We may see a nice ping-pong match & at the end of the gruelling rallies..the ball will be thrown back to AIFF court. AIFF in turn will throw the ball to its working committee which will be governed by FSDL. Then again the ball back to AFC court & another ping-pong match.
We the Football loving fools will be left more & more frustrated & fight amongst us & the power which controls the things will be left checking their Bank statements after dancing to the tune of "Let's Football".
