Just saw Rahul's new idea on facebook: "A merged league would probably need to have a two tier membership. Those that pay the big franchise fees (e.g. current ISL clubs) should be allowed to be relegation free and will form the main mega-city based core of the league that does not change over the years. Others (those I-league clubs that join) without big franchise fees should be subject to relegation. Is that a fair, practical and a good way to structure the merged AFC certified real season long league ?"
I mean, this is why I would rather wait for the merger than rush into it. WHEN we get one-single league in India then things like this should not happen. It should not be "this group of teams is relegated while this group is exempt from relegation." It should be either they all are or not.
No more different rules per each team, the new league should be played under rules in which each team must abide to.
Merit should be the sole criteria to play in the Top League. No Direct entry. Only those clubs who satisfy AFC Criteria should be allowed to play. Whether club is PSU or not, if it qualifies through Second Division and satisfy AFC Criteria, that should be enough to play in Top Division. The problem is that while people criticise Government teams, they overlook the fact that ISL Franchises do not satisfy AFC norms or DSK/Bharat type teams did not come thru qualifying. There should be same rule for everyone.
Agree to disagree. Merit should play a part but don't act all innocent and fair. Professional football these days is a ruthless game in which if you don't have what it takes you are finished. It it not all about how everything is on the field now and just getting some things right off it... for India it should be more than that.
As for the ISL teams, you know very well they could easily pass the AFC Licensing Criteria if they had to and where was it said that they all fail anyway?
