Just because you did not ask me, I will answer (cause I am annoying like that): Many of the established I-League clubs like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru FC (now), Shillong Lajong, Mumbai, Salgaocar etc. have a long history and tradition... and stuff.
Also however the quality of these b-teams may be, they have a seperate team for different age groups.. and the teams from goa, NE and mumbai promote good amount of local players to their main team which current ISL setup cannot achieve with their present outlook
Non-Adherence to FIFA / AFC Guidelines and Recognition is one reason. Dubious Celebrity ownership, Sweat Equity model is another reason. Holding matches daily is a sham. Minimal actual infrastructure on ground is baffling-the entire league is run from Hotels and a private company. Can any aggrieved party recourse to FIFA for any payment problems or any disciplinary issues? Two leagues system is choking the entire schedule-other small clubs or tournaments are getting sidelined.
I League clubs. It's our identity. No one can take EB or MB out of the Kolkatans. Two history rich clubs with proper youth structure (unfortunately some incompetent club officials too, but we will get rid of them I am sure) vs ATK. Just no comparison boss !! EB/MB can get all the fancy outlook of ATK, but ATK no matter how much it tries can't get the rich heritage behind them, can't evoke the emotions of the fans as these clubs do. I want ATK to stay and love whatever development work they are doing, but certainly not as a replacement for EB/MB. I am sure there are enough glory hunter new kids on the block who will boost the fan base of ATK, but I don't care. Rather we, EB-MB fans don't care.
