Bengal managed only 1 win and lost to TN!!! Looks like they will not defend the title this time <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

    From the team Bengal selected I never expected them to challenge for the title. <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

    Result of today's 1st match:

    Goa 3-3 Services (Half-time 1-1).

    Punjab v Railways is next...

Railways beat Punjab 2-1 after being 1-0 down at half-time, which means Railways have already become group winners. Railways will now meet West Bengal in the semi-finals.

There are several permutations for who will finish 2nd in the group (and thus face Manipur in the semi-finals)

Services: A victory over already-qualified Railways will see Services qualify for the semi-finals and knock out Goa and Punjab, regardless of the result between those 2 teams.

Goa: Must beat Punjab and hope Services don't beat Railways.

Punjab: Must beat Goa and hope Services don't beat Railways.

It's possible that Goa, Punjab and Services could all finish on 2 points (Goa v Punjab ends in a draw, Railways beat Services), in which case, the 2nd placed team will be decided on which team has scored the highest number of goals in the 3 matches involving the teams with 2 points (all teams would have a goal difference of 0).

Railways beat Services 2-1 to finish their group with a maximum 9 points.

The winner of the Goa v Punjab match will now go to the semi-finals to play Manipur. If the Goa v Punjab match ends in a draw, then Services will qualify for the semi-finals.

The half-time score in the final quarter-final group match is Goa 0-0 Punjab, so as it stands, Services would go to the semi-finals, despite not winning a single match in the quarter-finals.

*Edit - Punjab scored with 12 minutes to go, then Goa equalised, but both teams are eliminated.

Final score Goa 1-1 Punjab - Services qualify for the semi-finals on goals scored in the matches involving Goa, Services and Punjab (Services had 5 goals, Goa had 4, Punjab had 3).

Semi-finals: Manipur v Services, Railways v West Bengal

  • Semi-finals: Manipur v Services, Railways v West Bengal

Semi-finals: Manipur v Services, Railways v West Bengal

    Another Manipur Vs Bengal final!!!!

    Another?

They have NEVER met in a Santosh Trophy final in the entire history of the tournament.

Of the 64 finals so far:
West Bengal have been in 42 (won 30 and lost 12).
Manipur have only ever reached ONE final (which they won, on home soil against Kerala in 2002).

I think you must be confusing the men with the women (where Manipur and West Bengal played many finals).

This is the complete listing of honours for the 64 tournaments so far: Only 12 teams have reached the final since the first tournament in 1942.

    TEAM WINNERS (RUNNERS-UP)
    West Bengal 30 (12)
    Punjab 8 (6)
    Goa 5 (7)
    Kerala 5 (7)
Maharashtra 4 (11) (including tournaments played as Bombay)
Karnataka 4 (5) (including tournaments played as Mysore)
    Railways 3 (5)
Andhra Pradesh 3 (3) (including tournaments played as Hyderabad)
    Services 1 (5)
    Delhi 1 (1)
    Manipur 1 (0)
    Tamil Nadu 0 (1)

For the women's senior championship: (19 finals)
    Manipur 16 (2)
    West Bengal 2 (13)
    Odisha 1 (3)
    Kerala 0 (1)

Only 4 teams have ever reached the final.

    wow...u are like the encyclopedia of domestic tournaments...Now I suspect that u are an AIFF spy <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt=":roll:" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: --> <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) --> <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

In that case let me tell u...AIFF not doing badly lately, need to keep it up <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

If I was an AIFF spy, some information would be missing, and there would be errors in it, and it would take me 2 weeks to provide the information. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

Seriously though, the information is all on the internet, free for anybody to see.

I just feel I have to say something when somebody makes a throwaway comment like "Another Manipur v Bengal final" (when there have never been any).

What I don't understand is - The AIFF is providing live score updates from the semi-final matches. Why could they not provide live score updates from all the matches? I mean, most of them were being played in Guwahati, just like the semi-finals. How hard would it have been to get somebody to update, or even provide half-time and full-time updates?

Manipur 1-0 Services, after extra-time - Manipur into only their second final ever after a penalty on 115 minutes.
