@TeamChennain Pro Kabbadi is successfull without having a all these Bollywood/cricket stars (dont consider Abhishiek as star) ...... there opening ceremony was a simple one with Aamir Khan Singing National anthem..... When u have a good product to market u don't need glitz and glamour
PKL has celebrities singing national anthem every single day, this time they went one step ahead and made Sunny Leone sing anthem. Imagine how much thrashing ISL would have recieved if that happened in ISL....you have local telly soap actor/actresses attending games in PKL also . Kabaddi do use glitz and glamour. That's how sports is promoted in India. Dont tell me PKL is thriving just because of the quality of game. A lot goes to the marketting and the expensive graphics they are using. You have movie stars promoting films and requesting fans to watch PKL . If these are not gimmicks , then what is? Its pointless to aim only at ISL. Noone would have gone to see Anup Kumar raiding in kabaddi if PKL was presented in some hot afternoon summer in some muddy outfield in Punjab. The badminton league was a big flop because it never had any glamour.
You don't need glamour. If you have a good product then all you need is the good production. Everywhere in the world, even in the Premier League, it is not about just the game but the whole experience overall.
The day Sunny leone sings the national anthem in front of a football crowd i will give up.
I still hate the opening ceremonies in ISL. This isnt the olympics. Time to test ISL without Glamour as am confident in a combined league there will not be any impacts.
@shubham_northeastern: As people have commented here, the NFL, in its initial stages, did attract massive crowds and garner a lot of attention, but lack of marketing and the mismanagement by the AIFF caused a lot of promising clubs to shut shop and gradually led to the breaking of the backbone of the domestic league...TRPs and fully filled stadiums are not the only yardsticks of judging the development of the football of a nation...it might be one of the ways...one of the ways of developing a country's football is by scouting young talent from the states...it was this that made India a force to reckon with in the 50s, 60s and 70s...after that, local talent scouting (particularly in Bengal) and youth development was given short shrift by the clubs who began to rely more and more on foreign players...will the ISl clubs ensure that they would look into this much-neglected aspect...if yes, then the ISl definitely is a step in the right direction...otherwise, all the stakeholders, including us, the common viewers, need to introspect and come up with alternatives
