AIFF TO LAUNCH MULTI-CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONS CUP IN AUGUST

All India Football Federation (AIFF) plans to introduce a new invitational multi-continental Champions Cup competition in August 2017. The newly proposed Champions Cup will be an annual affair played between four Countries, starting 2017.

 

The Champions Cup may possibly see participation from an Asian, African and a North American Country in addition to hosts India. AIFF with inputs from its marketing partner FSDL have studied the current National Team’s engagement and have devised a strategic National calendar program to ensure the Senior National Team train and play more often through the year, with special attention to increase the number of home games for the National Team.

Since these venues will not be hosting U-17 WC

ps- Kochi is likely to loose U-17 WC spot acoording to some

Invitational tournaments are anachronism these days, what with busy leagues and continuous engagements of countries for friendlies. I doubt if this is going to be successful. Instead of inviting teams, we should make entries by qualification. We have to make the appearance fees and Prize money huge so there is an urge for teams to come for this tourney. And to keep the quality around India's capability level, the qualification mark should be kept to, say, semi-final of the respective continental cup. Unless we make the level propped at a certain high, the tempo will go down over time and this will have the same fate of Nehru Cup.
