EMILIANO ALFARO WANTS 'FANTASTIC' PUNE CITY TO STAY ON TOP OF THE TABLE
Every team needs a striker like Emiliano Alfaro. He will score goals, create chances, hold up play and track back to defend, making him a huge asset to any club in Indian Super League (ISL).
The 29-year-old Uruguayan signed for FC Pune City and has already scored five goals from eight games so far this season. Along with Marcelinho, the Pune attack has proved to be extremely potent against fellow ISL teams. As a result, they are sitting pretty at the top of the table. Speaking to Goal, Alfaro called for focus so as to remain on top at the end of the season.
"Everything is different when you lose. We are in a good position in the table and we have to continue the same way. I feel very good but we have to continue this."
Having last season's Golden Boot winner as your teammate helps, with the pair already having notched 11 goals between them for the team. There is an undeniable chemistry between the two South Americans.
"You can see that on the field. We try to look for each other on the field all the time. We are never selfish. We try to do good things for the team. It is not just the two of us, we are a fantastic group," said the striker.
Alfaro is not new to Indian Super League, having donned the colours of NorthEast United FC last season. The Uruguayan has high hopes for both ISL and Indian football.
"In India, football is becoming better every year. If they continue like this, in the future maybe they can reach the level of Europe. In our country, you can see football everywhere. It is the same here with cricket. It is about building a footballing culture. India is becoming better. Now you can see many good talents."
The perk of being a part of a team owned by a Bollywood actor is that you get access to good Hindi movies. NorthEast United owner John Abraham made sure Alfaro watched enough Bollywood movies before he left the club. We'd also like to believe that is not the reason why he left NorthEast United after last season!
"I like Bollywood. Last year I was in NorthEast United and we had John Abraham there. He told me about some films and I saw them," beamed the forward.
"Our stadium in Pune is small but the support is nice. I love playing in front of our fans. People in NorthEast are crazy about football. But in Pune also, people are supporting us."
The striker, who made his way back from an injury layoff to be part of FC Pune City's first team setup, is having the time of his life in India. The happy-go-lucky man is hoping to contribute as much as he can to take FC Pune City towards the trophy. With Orange Army by his side, nothing looks impossible.
Claudio Matias Mirabaje of Delhi Dynamos FC and Sehnaj Singh of Mumbai City FC have been suspended for four and two matches respectively in the ongoing ISL season. The former has also been fined Rs 3 lakh and the latter Rs 2 lakh. Both players were shown the red card for an incident going for the ball at the Mumbai Football Arena.
The All India Football Federation Disciplinary Committee found the two rival players violating Article 48 (serious infringement) and Article 49 (misconduct against opponents or persons other than official) during a MCFC versus Delhi Dynamos tie at MFA on December 29 last year. After the offending players were sent off nearing the first half closure, both sides finished the tie with 10 players.
The Delhi midfielder made four appearances in the fourth edition and scored once. He represented Uruguay at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The Mumbai midfielder played seven matches so far, no goals but took five shots at goal and is a senior international, part of the India squad for the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying rounds and is on loan from East Bengal.
Good win for NEUFC . 8 PM timing for NEUFCs matches doesnt make sense . Its cold and late . I dont wanna stir up a debate , but Neroca had 5 times the attendance on the same day than NEUFC.
I spoke to many people from Assam and NE India nobody really gives a fuck about NE United there. Infact when I asked about Holicharan Nazary to a driver he was like "Holi is from a different region even for Guwahiti he is like a away player".
NE might be called sweetly as seven sisters but each of the state is quite different from each other. Just a team for so many different types of people is way too much.
Exactly. It is like the North Indians clubbing the whole of South Indians under "Madrasis". Imagine having only one club for them: South India United!
Having only one club for the most prolific football zone of india (and running it from Mumbai) is showing how much out of sync ISLwallas are with ground realities.
IL is better that way because it is an open system, any club can come up anytime and anywhere. And it is reflecting the real scenario with three clubs.

Greogory must not be banned
Making some good money via these suspension
Another card-specialist Nirmal Chhetri does not fail to disappoint--gets a yellow card in the 17th minute of the first half.
