Never forgot about Joy Ferrao (or Ferrao Joy as goal.com calls him). He was top scorer in the I-League 2nd Division a few years ago. He played 8 games in I-League last season and scored 1 goal.
The Armando Rohan saga shows no sign of abating. Armando says he is not match fit, Rohan thinks otherwise and ridicules Armando's coaching methods of getting player match fit by making them run on the street (very interesting Dempo players run on the street, no wonder Rohan is so pissed, the inevitable if you make a player with the kind of background as Rohan run on the streets to get him match fit ). Everyone knows that a player becomes match fit gradually as he plays more games.
Rohan has had discussions with TJM as well, some of my British expat friends here who went out and had beer with him tells me he clearly thinks Armando's practice methods don't make sense.
It's not ROCKET SCIENCE to figure out that clearly there's a disconnect between Rohan and Armando. Armando thinks his system is the ONE, Rohan clearly thinks otherwise.

very interesting...... is he really not match-fit or is it related to discipline? i personally find it difficult to digest that a player like rohan is unfit for playing i-league games...... strange

IMHO, this is the first time someone had the guts to speak up against a big shot like Armando. It's not rocket science to figure out that it's all Armando dictatorship at Dempo, he even decides player salaries there, no wonder no one even dares to speak up against him. Dempo Srinivasan has given Armando a free reign and Armando decides everything football related with Dempo. That doesn't necessarily mean his "pass pass" system or whatever he calls it is anything path breaking. Most Indian coaches, if NOT ALL, have very outdated methods and are in no mood or hurry to update themselves, this is true for not only Armando but coaches elsewhere in the country too.
In the past foreign players have spoken up against Indian coaches, at least it has happened in Kolkata before. As recently as last year, Simon Storey spoke up against Subrata Bhattacharya's outdated methods. I have no hesitation in admitting that Subrata's methods are outdated but he has his strong points too, same might be the case with Armando, just that I am not aware of his strong points other than that the Dempo system allows him a free reign. Same case with Sanjay Sen, just that the damage control was foreseen by Prayag management and are actively working on it.
I have observed the MBSFA and the MB football school from close and I conveyed to management straight up that the coaching methods are outdated and they need to get ONE foreigner at least, some one Papas' type. I don't see anything wrong in admitting your deficiencies, that doesn't necessarily mean I am writing off Indian coaches.
Probably the beer he is having with the expats is making him unfit. And in Goa beer being dirt cheap, I think this guy is enjoying. No problem continue to enjoy. You hv all India support against the coach.
If these practice methods win u five titles, I wonder how primitive the other clubs coaching style is. Probably even worse than Armando. So we hv to give credit to the " best amongst the worst".
Rohan Ricketts has history of being a bit of a 'media monkey', just check his former blogs, posts etc. ( pre-twitter days). This and his casual approach has seen him fail to settle at any club for over a year & his spin on this "journeyman footballer looking to help develop football"
Granted , there is a lot that players & coaches can learn from foreign players , but a lot that Ricketss picked up from his days at Spurs and Arsenal is currently outdated. Whilst a lot of Indian based coaches ( I have seen over 20 of them train over the past 4 years ) are outdated too, Armando Colaco is certainly one of the best ones.
Karim Bencharifa, Trevor Morgan, Arthur Papas, Pradyum Reddy, Wim Koevermans and Drago Mamic all put on very interesting sessions that the players seem to enjoy.
Armando Colaco, Savio MAdeira, Derrick Parriera, Santosh Kashyap, Alex Alvares, Caitano Pinha and Gavin Araujo are in a similar bracket.
The rest of the Indian coaches ( & old school Englanders like Bob Houghton, Desmond Bulpin etc) still do the following:
" Run laps, static stretching, passing 'drills' , 11 v 11 game !! every fuckin day " quote from an Aussie player who played here...
Whilst I admit that Subroto Bhattacharjee ( Bablu Da) , Bhowmick etc have a great knowledge of the game and make good managers, due to their ability to read the game and experience of playing at the top level as well as being very media savvy , which s crucial in Kolkata. This breed of "coaches" will never take Indian football forward as they cannot DEVELOP players.
Criticizing Armando seems to be a ploy of certain Bengal media, and they are trying to create a divide between Ricketts & Colaco that doesn't exist. Watch the Youtube clips, Rohan wants to play ( fair enough , all pro's do), Armando as he has always done , wants players to get used to Indian conditions before they become regulars. Ricketts has been made to play in GFA league for that reason, no one is making him run lasp to get fit.The main I see, is that Ricketts is a winger & always has been. Dempo need a Centre mId or striker, and unfortunately he doesn't fit that bill.
AC is unlikely to change is tried & tested formula for 1 player , so the player must adapt to fit the system or move on... simple as that..
The more the Bengal media or forum members with those allegiances post here the more Ashlesh will get riles & respond, BUT there's no need to try to sully the name of the top coach in the country who has constantly updated his methods on his visits abroad. The way Dempo play & develop players is testament to this , and MORE club owners should follow Srinivas Dempo's lead.

Give him a while. Let him get used to life in India.

Who knows. If we go by numbers then Abranches is better.
