@ashlesh. I think we should restrict the clubs to the big towns/cities. Maybe your club can come in from Mapusa. Wow, that makes it seven. We rule. O:-)
@Dominic Siliguri is way up north from Kolkata and Kalyani is very close but as seen from the users on here who actually live in West Bengal and the great crowds there (and an okay stadium) you can easily have Prayag United play there as well.
As for Goa. Kolkata has 14,000,000 people alone. Goa is not even close. And the comparison with other Asian countries does not work here considering India's huge population and the fact that, unlike most Asian countries, we have to deal with other sports which almost limits the fan base for domestic football.
And Goa is what? 2,000,000 people? And the clubs with 3,000-5,000 capasity stadiums... where? Only 1 team in the AFC Champions League - you know, that competition we hope to play in one day (maybe next season perhaps) - has a stadium with a capacity below 10,000 and that is Lokomotiv Tashkent of Uzbekistan with a stadium capacity of 8,000 (Great looking stadium BTW).
The point being here is that currently an extra team in Kolkata is acceptable under certain terms (aka, Prayag shifting base and Mohammedan's rich history) but Goa is different. You guys only have 1 suitable stadium in the Fatorda. Tilak is a question mark while Duler is only suitable for temporary use. Also the fan support is not really, full, isn't it? 6,000-8,000 is great for a state like Goa but what is the limit? For me I see it caving in at 15,000-20,000 in the future which would be perfect but I dont see all 4 clubs doing it. Especially since over the next few years Indian football wants to professionalize itself (or at least I hope it does).
Oh and in conclusion. Goa is not the better state by having more clubs. Goa is the best state because they hold the more successful club. Currently Kolkata might win that back but only because of East Bengal, not because they will have more clubs.
Again I say. Why this Kolaveri di about population.Nobody is denying the figures. In India anything is possible. Plz check how many Immigrant Bangladeshi's in all those figures. Big vote bank. Time out guys.

But what about the Kolkata metro which is arguably the size (maybe larger) of Goa.

Because in almost every professional league in the world (top-tier at least) population is a major factor. For Indian football it does not matter at this moment but it will eventually. I believe anything can happen in India but magical wonders wont.
Just stats nothing else,as u said no kolaveri di. U took up this into the coversation and now i gave u some solid stats and u say "why this kolaveri di? " good!

Read my first post today. There also I said "why this kolaveri di about population". Its not for the figures put out by you. They are correct. I dont deny that.
@kid. If population is everthing, then there are about 16 lakhs Goans living in Bombay. More than the population in Goa. We can count them also. Hahah.
