Kolkata: Kingfisher East Bengal scouts two new Indian players for the forthcoming season as the scouting team of Alvito D’Cunha and Sashthi Duley selected two young footballers Mirshad and Joby Justin from the Kerala Premier League, which took place in the last week of May.
Mirshad plays as a goalkeeper and Joby Justin, the 24 years old from Trivandram is highly skillful, fast and can play as a forward, as a right full-back and as a right winger. Though Alvito and Sashthi went to Kerala to see a young midfielder named Biju alias Tuttu from SBI, his “off the ball” skills failed to impress the East Bengal representatives.
The East Bengal camp is highly excited as they firmly believe the duo can add a lot of value to the squad in the next season.
In the transfer window, the fans of the clubs always look upto the players that their beloved club is being linked. And when it becomes somebody big then the talks in the town reach high decibels.
For the East Bengal fans in India such a situation may arise. According to sources, former Olympiacos ace Diogo Luis Santo is in the radar of the Red and Gold whose biodata has arrived at the club recently.
The Sao Paulo born striker came through Atletico Mineiro academy and played in prominent names of Brazillian football like Palmeiras, Flamengo and Santos. He also played in Copa Libertadores for Santos with merit.
After days at Brazil, Diogo moved to Europe and joined Greek giants Olympiacos where he was one of the main strikers and won 3 Greek Leagues. He also played 2 matches in UEFA Champions League for the Greek Champions in the group stages and scored 1 goal in UCL Qualifiers. The Brazillian ace also has 5 goals in 9 matches in his name in UEFA Europa League and now defunct UEFA Cup.
In January 2015, Thai outfit Buriram United signed Diogo where he is currently playing. In his debut season he broke the scoring records of the Thai League winning Top Scorer and MVP award of the league and also making Buriram first team in Asia to lift 5 national or international titles in a calendar year.
Santo is having a great season with Buriram this year also as he has already netted 14 goals in 16 matches, and 8 of them came when he started from the wings which reflects the player’s potential in the flanks. At Buriram, he has scored a total 61 times in 70 appearances including several goals in ACL.
The player is having his contract untill 30th November 2019 and having his market value set at €1million, but the talks are that the Brazillian is looking for a new challenge outside Thailand.
Sources claim that East Bengal officials are highly interested in the player but they are willing to make him undergo a trial which the player is reluctant to do. The player will only sign a direct deal.
Red and Gold were already linked with Ghanaian international Seidu Bancey and Argentine German Lessman. Now the emergence of Diogo Luis Santo’s name clearly indicates that the club is willing to make a top class recruit in the striking department ahead of the CFL.
