TopTech TMT Bar has officially been announced as the Associate Sponsor of East Bengal club for 2020-21 season. They made an official announcement through a Facebook Post today.
The East Bengal football team is taking the help of English sports psychologist Nicola McCalliog to increase their mental strength. She has been taking classes of the footballers two/three days in a week through video call from Liverpool University. This initiative has been taken by Robbie Fowler.
Nicola has not been talking about anything related to football in her classes. She has been enquiring about the background and the family life about each footballer. Sometimes, she asks the players how frequently they talk with their wives, girlfriends, and parents in a day. At other times, she talks about what the footballers are interested in apart from football. What sort of films they like to watch or songs they love listening to. She even wanted to know from the footballers which places they have planned to visit once the ISL is over. She is basically enquiring about the details of each and every player's personal life.
The players have been quite impressed with this new experience. According to them, "Even after playing table tennis, carrom, billiards, play station, we could not get over the feeling of loneliness. However, we are feeling a lot more energized after Nicola Madam's classes. We have not discussed about football at all with her. She has said that the coaches are there to discuss and advise you on football. I want to mix with you all as a friend, so that you can talk with me freely about your problems."
SC East Bengal appoint psychologist Nicola McCalliog
She is currently part of the player welfare team for several Premier League clubs and Robbie Fowler’s Education and Football Academy.
In a bid to ensure players are in good mental space during the 2020-21 Hero Indian Super League season, SC East Bengal has roped in seasoned psychologist Nicola McCalliog.
Nicola is a Chartered Forensic Psychologist, Sport and HCPC Registered Psychologist.
She has worked in psychology for over 15 years in forensics, for the government and in elite sport. Nicola is currently part of the player welfare team as a consultant for several leading English Premier League football clubs and SC East Bengal head coach Robbie Fowler’s Education and Football Academy.
Nicola works with coaches and players from a welfare perspective off the pitch and from a performance psychology perspective on the pitch. Her aim is to build resilience to help the team achieve their goals.
“I am here to support the manager and the staff to get the best out of the players on and off the pitch. I need to understand their story as they are a player and a person,” Nicola said.
“I am there to listen, advise and provide solutions to the players so they can have absolute focus in training and games. It is all about creating a positive and winning mentality individually and collectively as a team.
“I see the hunger to win in the eyes of the players and feel an unbreakable team spirit building. It’s all about making history and winning the ISL with the great club that is SC East Bengal for the fans, club, players, team and the community. I am very happy to be a part of the SC East Bengal team and cannot wait to come to India for the play-offs,” added Nicola who gets on zoom calls with every player individually at least once a week.
Nicola will be working with the players using military techniques around mental preparation, breathing, visualisation and resilience. As a trained hostage negotiator and advisor she can apply her training successfully to elite sports players
Fantastic initiative taken by the team management. In this bubble, the presence of a psychologist or a mental conditioning coach is very essential. It's going to help the players a great deal. And also numerous fan posters/placards and framed photographs of East Bengal legends have also been sent to the Hilton hotel recently to make players aware of the legacy and sacrifices of yesteryear players and the staffs. Which, in my opinion, is a tremendous approach to educate players on what they are going to represent on field. If you follow the East Bengal official Twitter account, you'll find a daily post dedicated to either the glorious past of the club or something related to the Bangal sentiment. This too is a fantastic and brilliant idea to let everyone know, why East Bengal club is this big in Bengali culture and society. There are so many things to like about this new administrative team of the club. They want to build something strong and exciting on the prominent base of the legacy of East Bengal. We all need to appreciate their wholehearted approach.
@thebeautifulgame hard to blame them. Anthony Stokes was finalized way before, but he lost his case against his ex girlfriend on molestation charges at the very later stages of transfer deadline. That's the sole cause of this whole trouble. But you can be assured club will surely sign the seventh foreigner in the January window.
There has been no official confirmation that Stokes was the foreigner finalized. Even if he was, there should have been at least one backup because the charges against Stoke was filed quite some time before and there were doubts whether he would receive his visa if he lost the case. Moreover, even after the Stokes case, there were a no. of decent foreign players who were available as free agents but the club did not make any initiative to sign them. The lack of a decent foreign striker might come to haunt us once the league starts. Signing someone in the January window would hardly help matters because half the League would be over then.

Anyway, keeping fingers crossed.
