Trouble has erupted over EB playing IFA Shield. SCEBF management wants Shield to be postponed till March so that EB can field full squad. Club officials are probably hoping to play it out with the reserves as the IFA insists to have it in December.
@Samyajit that's not the real picture. Actually IFA secretary Jaydeep Mukherjee sent his invitation mail directly to the General Secretary of East Bengal club, Mr. Kalyan Mazumder. And Mr. Mazumder in return sent an acceptance letter with a condition of delaying the shield. The shield is supposed to be held in three venues across Kolkata and suburban areas from 6th December and that too without protected bio bubble. Sree Cement East Bengal Foundation, the newly formed private body that is responsible in running and managing all sporting activities of East Bengal Club was initially reluctant in participation, because IFA didn't approach them at first place and approached the club instead. However, the current two board members of the JV are now willing to participate in the tournament, if IFA can organise the shield in protected bio bubble and bear the hotel expenses. Because IFA shield is an invitational tournament, the board members feel that the organizers should be responsible in bearing the bio bubble cost and not the participating clubs. Although, a response from IFA hasn't officially come in this regard.
*Point to be noted: There isn't any dispute between the club and the JV. So don't fall prey to false rumors.
It's been learned that in response to IFA's invitation to the IFA shield, Sree Cement East Bengal foundation has officially sent a letter requesting IFA to delay the shield till March. It is very important to note that, yesterday club general Secretary Mr. Kalyan Mazumder's mail also voiced similar opinion. The club and SCEBF board directors came on to terms that East Bengal club won't feature any second grade team to any competition and would field strongest possible team everywhere. So, as soon as the ISL gets over, East Bengal team can shift its focus to the second oldest cup tournament of the world, which is extremely prestigious to the club and its members. Although it is unlikely that IFA would consider this request of the club, as Calcutta Football league premier division is set to be played in that March-April window (Still undecided).
Today another letter from SCEBF was sent to CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal), the governing body of cricket in West Bengal, asking the rules and regulations of forthcoming Bengal T20 league, which is supposed to be held from 28th November onwards. The board is also planning on to build a strong Cricket team for the cricket season. Existing contract of players are under evaluation and the club is looking to sign six new and well known cricketers to strengthen the squad.
