The management has not yet finalised the 7th foreigner for the team. But no need to worry as they will sign the 7th foreigner soon. Now we are not sure whether he will be a centre forward or a player of different position. According to our sources we can say that the management has not been able to find a suitable player who fits perfectly to the coach’s plan and that is the reason the search is still on and hence the delay .. Since our gaffer Robbie Fowler didn’t get sufficient time like some of the other ISL teams for pre season , he wants a few more practice matches and maybe two pre season friendlies before deciding which foreign player will be suitable according to the squad’s requirement .. Whoever will fit his tactics and style of play will be hired by the management ..
"Two pre-season friendlies"! According to reports, the team would be playing its second pre-season friendlies on 20 November. After the player is signed, he will have to get his visa, come to India, go into quarantine and only then get to play his first match. By that time, half the league might well be over.
For the last few seasons, EB's fortunes heavily suffered because of the lack of a quality CF (and to a certain extent, a good goalkeeper). Keeping that in mind, they should have signed a quality CF at the earliest. Does the management think that they can succeed with the fatso Jeje, the over the hill Balwant and Aaron, who was used sparingly by Fowler himself in his previous stint at Brisbane Roar?
So what is the reason for leaving the most crucial foreigner position vacant till now? Surely budget can't be the reason as they have signed expensive foreigners in other positions.
East Bengal club will play the first practice match of the season against kibu vicuna's kerala blasters tomorrow at 4 pm at kerala's practice ground. The match will be played in three halves, each half of 30 mins. It's been learned that three set of players are being readied for the match as the coaching team has plans of fielding separate sets for separate halves.
Another update is coming from the club tent. IFA has invited East Bengal club to play the IFA shield, which is going to start in early December. Along with the big three of Kolkata maidan, 8 other ileague and Kolkata league premier division teams are also among the invitees. However, the arch rivals East Bengal and Mohun Bagan may not feature in this edition of the IFA shield due to ISL commitments obviously. Although it's been heard that East Bengal club management is very eager to participate with its second team, which will be a mixture of u19 and reserve players. But the investors are reluctant. Let's see what's there in store in this saga.
