    I think by height Ash meant in defense because our defenders are normal height but we need tall players, players who can be as tall as Per Mertesaker from Arsenal.

    Thats what I'm trying to tell and this guy is giving typical fake Indian Football fan examples,now when you talk about Barcelona you have to remember there are players like Pique(192 cm),Busquets(189 cm) and Puyol who may not be very tall but he can jump as much as 6'2 inch player.

    Now compare them with Indian players do you think anybody is that tall,Gouramangi who looked tallest was just about Bastian schweinsteiger.

    Hey Ash, I know you must have heard this example many a times. But my point is the average height of Indians is around 5'7 to 5'9, which is good 3'0 inches short compared to average height of 5'10 to 6'0 in European countries. Now to get tall defenders of about 6'0 and above, that too quality defenders having the capability of playing in NT, is not very effective. Also the fact that you can developed someone's strength through diet and regime but height is something that can't be developed in academies, it is inherited. One has to keep in mind that, it is better to have a technically sound player rather than selecting players based on height. Take for example Japan NT, most of the defenders are around 5'9, but they are successful asian team. Now compare Indian defenders with Japan defenders, do you think Indian defenders are as good as them?? As you only said, Puyol is not so tall but he can jump upto 6'0. This is something that can be developed in academies through training. In the current Indian NT, there are few defenders that are around 6'0 but were they able to stop the BM team?? As a matter of fact they were technically far below than BM team.
    Now, coming to India playing against BM, since there was a definite height disadvantage, India should have tried to cover the wings to stop crosses into the box. It is India's tactical naivety and technical difference that India could not effectively close the wings and kept large spaces on the flanks, that they exploited effectively. India was far better in second half when they were able to close the wings to some extent(though by that time BM had lifted the foot over the pedal).
    In the end, I just want to say that, I am not against tall defenders, but given the scenario, a talented short defender is far better than ineffective tall defenders.

    Where do these results come from? I am not denying they are right but where do they come from. Also the national average may be 5'10 but the American National Average is like 6 feet yet we have many people at 6.5 feet. Also with India's 1.2 Billion people there should be like 70 Million people who are like 6.5 to 7 feet tall. We just need to find them.

    I am not denying that there wouldn't be any people above 6'0, but my question will they be good enough to play for NT??

    I also have a question for all!!! The new FIFA-AIFF academies are opening for youth 14 to 16 years. Right? Please correct me if I am wrong here. How can one determine who is going to be 6'0 feet tall at the age of 14??

    they would keep a height say 5'6 or something as cutoff for trails and then a proper diet and training method can easily lhelp them reach the height of 5'11 or 6'0 and more .it is easily possible and is one of the followed method over many parts of the world....i think we indians are yet to get good knowledge in sports science that is the reason such doubts are coming
    this will be probable method they might be implementing

    Watch the full match on youtube in HD. I just love the second half. Have seen it many times. The more you see, the more you discover how brilliantly we played! <!-- s:clap: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eusa/clap.gif" alt=":clap:" title="Clap" /><!-- s:clap: -->

    Many 14 year olds who are like 5'5 and above are a destined to get to 6'0 and above because they still need there growth spurts plus with the right foods they will definitely get taller.

    Agree with you completely. <!-- s:bow-yellow: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/bow/yellow.gif" alt=":bow-yellow:" title="Yellow" /><!-- s:bow-yellow: -->

    When Indian Basketball Federation can scout and train taller players then why not Football for certain positions.

    Imagine what will happen if Indians take to football
    An article by Thomas Mueller (Bayern player and Golden ball winner in 2010 WC)
    <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.hindustantimes.com/sports-news/SportColumns/Imagine-what-will-happen-if-Indians-take-to-football/Article1-791323.aspx"; onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.hindustantimes.com/sports-ne ... 91323.aspx</a><!-- m -->

    Namastey to my Indian friends! I have been to Kolkata and Siliguri in 2009 with Bayern and I’m very excited to come back here.

    I’m thankful to the beautiful game which has taken me to different places. I was born in Weilheim (Upper Bavaria) and grew up in the small village of Paehl, which
    was unknown to the outside world till I was fortunate enough to win the ‘Golden Boot’ and the ‘Best Young Player’ award at the 2010 World Cup.

    I came through the FC Bayern youth development programme and perhaps that’s why I have high hopes from the tour to India. We have heard so much about your country’s recent achievement in cricket and its rich history in hockey. It’s perhaps the right time for my club and our premier partner Audi, to take the initiative to encourage football in India. Imagine, what will happen to football if a nation with 1.2 billion people becomes obsessed with the game.

    We can imagine the kind of adulation Bhaichung gets in India, and are privileged to be part of this match. I would also like to convey my deepest sympathy to the people of his home state, Sikkim, who were affected by the earthquake.

    I understand how people, especially young ones, are most affected by the trauma of natural disasters. Back home in Germany, I try and do my bit for a charity, YoungWings, which helps children who have suffered from bereavement or trauma.

    One has also heard a lot about the historic city of Delhi, where we will play the Indian national team. I’m told that Delhi stands for a “city with a heart”. Football is known to produce magic and passion. Let’s hope that we can build a strong bond with India.
