AFC Cup is a failed competition. Huge costs involved with less returns as the quality is absolutely shit. Also like @munna219777 said lot teams are from developing nations and not prepared currently.
It's high time AFC restructure the tournaments. They are adding 8 more teams in ACL group stage. 40 teams; it will be an absolute comedy if they add 2 more groups, the best option is to expand each group to 5 teams.
They should try to include more top teams (can exclude top 6 atmost, not top 10 nations as of now) to AFC Cup to improve it's brand value. Also, they should revert to the old format, which was way better than the current one.
Bashundhara have written to AFC asking for compensation for the cancellation of the 2020 AFC Cup, according to Bangladeshi media. They spent big on foreign signings, banking on them to see them through to the knockout rounds while picking up the prize money, but are now being forced to look for alternatives. Maldivian side Maziya announced that they are considering doing the same.
The four teams were set to be paid USD 90,000 each before the revamped centralised group stage matches resumed, but it appears that AFC have decided to withhold that payment as the tournament has been declared null and void.
