Sadly as per AIFF Nehru cup would be only a 5 team affair and since you guys are saying that Afghanistan is sure then there are only 3 more teams..also these teams must have been finalized and am worried are not too good thts why not announced yet..seems like we have teams like thailand,malaysia,syri..hope am wrong

From AIFF website
Wim’s first assignment will be at the Nehru Cup which kicks-off on
August 23. The Executive Committee decided the tournament will consist
of five-teams including India and would be played on a round-robin
basis. The top two teams would qualify for the final which is slated for
September 2. The prize money of the Nehru Cup has been doubled to USD
    200,000 from USD 100,000.
• Exactly. I mean our team will probably be all India U22 players. Now imagine the Indian player in the Nehru Cup who has no caps. Would you want that players FIRST CAP FOR HIS COUNTRY be against Thailand Under-23s.

The tournament organisers are not foolish to let other nations bring their junior teams. They experienced it last time around in 2009 when 'Palestine' was about to send their so-called assembled club team and are going to sign pre-tournament contracts with the respective organizations to send their SENIOR SQUADS. And why are you terming it a 'useless' tournament. i remember it was the nehru cup victories in 2007 and 2009 and even the afc challenge cup victory in 2008 that brought INDIAN FOOTBALL NEWS ON FRONT PAGE OF NATIONAL DAILIES. we lament about the lack of international friendlies that our senior team is playing, and now when we get to play 4 international fifa recognized friendlies and earn valuable fifa ranking points you call it useless... whats wrong with u?
Last time AIFF rejected Thailand at last moment asthey were sending their u-23 team so be sure that it will be only senior teams this time..Infact this time with a new coach and team, Nehru cup is a really important tournament for Indian football

Because it is useless. To play these 4 or 5 games in a span of 10 days. To play these matches at a time when I-League teams are getting ready for the Federation Cup. At at time when instead of earning some small friendly FIFA match points we should play on the FIFA Match Date on 15 August and earn some more valuable points.

We hear all the time about how if India played on FIFA Match Days that we would be ranked higher than we actually are. We have seen India play in these quick 10 days tournaments which in the end leave the Indian players tired and lack of rest which will then lead to complaints by there I-League coach (People who think that wont happen need a reality check).

Of course there are ways of making this tournament meaningful but at this tournament I dont see it.
