Why are you guys being so negative towards this league? I mean, I don't agree fully with what @Ashlesh said as I want to see what happens with ISL before fully committing to it but lets be honest, the signs look good for this league.
The professionalism and the image the league is giving is just way higher than the I-League has ever done. I mean, last season we were talking about how our best signings are guys like Carlos Hernandez or John Johnson or Darryl Duffy, this season the marquees are Josh Walker, Pierre Boya, and Leo Bertos. In ISL we have Luis Garcia, Joan Capdevila, and Freddy Ljungberg. We would dream to see these guys in India.
The signs are looking good guys, just give it a chance.
So... out of curiosity. Anyone know when the other teams will be unveiled? Also, the ISL logo? Shirt sponsors? Stadiums? Info on pre-season.
Now that the draft is done I expect news on how teams are starting to train. For Atletico de Kolkata... they now have 17 players and a coach... get to Madrid and train!
I was always of the opinion that AIFF never did to I-league what IMGR is doing to 'their' league. All these -- including domestic and foreign player draft, revenue sharing with the clubs, fixing of broadcaster, publicity, et al -- could have been undertaken by AIFF, directly or indirectly. Instead of starting a separate league, what AIFF could do is appoint a league manager (perhaps IMGR, there are others available as well) and run a league with greater say and less conflict.
Without going the whole hog, they branded it a failed product and opted for a private league.
LOL! And who is gonna pay the money for all that stuff. Publicity, Broadcaster, Drafts, Marquees, Money is required. AIFF is broke. Lets accept the reality. They cannot do this. And IMG will also never do this for I-League. First of all, all clubs in ISL are established as companies. They will be professionally run under a set of guidelines framed by IMG committee. Can you think this is possible given the current condition of our old-age clubs like East Bengal,Mohun Bagan. Only exception I find is Bengaluru FC who are trying their best to set the standard. IMG are spending hell lot on money on all this. All the stadiums are being refurbished by them. With their own money.
Frankly speaking, the amount of reach that ISL has had in such a short amount of time, a newly launched I league with all these clubs again in fray would not be possible. Management has to be there. IMG even worked in IPL. Did you see the amount of work they did there. Its stupendous. I accept that its all hotch-potch with two league running. One high profile and the other, huh, low profile. But, things have to work somehow. We were thinking we would get 40+ marquees but these guys that we have are recently retired or still playing. GIVE IT A CHANCE. LOOK FORWARD FOR THE CHANGE. BE A PART OF THE CHANGE. @Deb_Ban@ashlesh
