@gaffertape: you got your sources wrong there.
What about giggs then. Wasn't he 40 last season. He was not at all useless. His through passes were magnificent. Yeah, maybe his speed decreased but his footballing sense was still there. Such stars coming to a country ranked 151 in the world is a big thing in first place.
And for us this is huge. I'd better watch these faded stars ( that is what u call) playing in ISL with proper passes and long balls rather than watching useless footballers slogging out in the field playing football like school kids in I LEAGUE.
@goalkeeper: its not that these guys still cant play good football. There's a reason why these guys have played at top level for such a Long time and you can't deny that. They will anyways play 10 times better football that is being played in our second grade I LEAGUE.
Only time will tell what is gonna happen and I feel ISL supporters are gonna have the last laugh.

As for anti-isl supporters, maybe IMG did not give them their share of money. So, they are crying and creating negative publicity.
Anyways, I league is not helping the country. So, lets try something different. If it workd very well, if it doesn't the. Screw it. As simple as that. Its not out money that is being spent.

I've got no issues with big player's coming to India and the concept of marquee.
Matter of fact if you go back a few years ago ! on this very forum, you will see @ArsenalFan700 and myself arguing for an MLS type expansion league and the concept of designated player's ( DP / marquee )
I have no issues with improving the current league...I just have a bit morw knowledge of the underhand way Reliance have gone about things and I'm concerned they will cut & bail once theu recoup the money they have put in.

As for the sources...I wont be able to mention which ISL team...but when the coaches..like Peter Reid, Owen Coyle etc types were on a conference call & the names of Pires and Ljunberg were mentioned...they expressed concerns. .
There is a lot more to signing player's than just seeing their past.
Giggsy isn't a true comparison. ..he has played every season of the Premier league until his retirement. ..he isn't a washed up player who failed after leaving the UK. These guys have genuine injury concerns and people who know them. ..know they will not put in the effort.
Bring them in as marquee coaches or some ambassadorial role...but expecting a decent performance week in week out is pipedreams

Maybe reliance will bail out after they recoup their money. Maybe not. Who knows. Time will tell. Just that we have to be optimistic about indian football. Lets just see things in present and hope 4 bttr future.
But, it's just pires and ljunberg. What about capdevila, garcia, trezeguet, silvestre. I dont see anyone complaining about them. Or are people also complaining there? Del piero if he comes will be a great signing.
We need to understand that this is the best we can manage at present. And this is just the first year. Hopefully, things will improve and we can hope for stronger league in future.

I do agree with @gaffertape in this one... the part where he says "I'm concerned they will cut & bail once theu recoup the money they have put in." is something that does concern me as well. I mean, for months we basically called this league the IMG-Reliance League so what the hell will happen once they make all their money back (which we all know is the main reason for this). And what will happen after the deal with IMG-Reliance finishes? We can't run on IMG-Reliance and their monopoly forever!

We would eventually need the Indian Super League to become its own entity which it is not at the moment if everything is being ran by IMG-Reliance. However, I would find the possibility funny for a future situation in which the ISL Season 6 finishes, IMG-Reliance finally re-gain all the money they have spent somehow. The league is currently a 6-7 month affair, we have 10 teams, crowds average 25,000 a game... things are great. We just qualified for Asian Cup 2023 and we are rolling... but wait, didn't I say that IMG-Reliance finally re-gained the money they've spent? Well then... the fuck with this shit! And the ISL folds after a successful season.

I find that scenario hard to see but what else can we expect from IMG-Reliance?

However, @Gaffertape, I will continue to look at what some of the team owners have said. Their interviews give me confidence that they are here for the long term so perhaps if this does happen in the future where IMG-Reliance bail then we could form a break-away league, separate from IMG-Reliance.

I am guessing that by that time the league will have profits and ambanis love profits..... But what will happen once the contract with AIFF expires? Who shall hold the right IMGR, AIFF, or Clubs with AIFF?
  • coolgagancoolgagan 1109 Points
That's what @arsenalfan700 said above @archak. They are gonna form a break away league.
  • ArsenalFan700ArsenalFan700 Reddit13655 Points
I said they might but who knows. I mean, lets be honest, if their are profits then IMG-Reliance will continue... who would not want more money? But we can not keep living, relying only on IMG-Reliance. We need to be independent.
