There are few questions before merging takes place.
1) "Thok Denge" type clubs can give salaries to Foreign players for 2 months. Can they recruit players for whole season which may be 6 months long or more?
2) ISL-Reliance is not an elected body represented or recognised by FIFA. FIFA needs an elected body following their constitution to conduct the league. A private businesssman cannot conduct the league. Why will Reliance give their product ISL to AIFF and FIFA? Then all profit which Reliance is earning will go to AIFF and FIFA.
3) How many of these franchises have Benami ownership? Relaince owns more then 1 team? Not permissible under FIFA this drama of paid owners and real benami ownership of Reliance Group.
4) what will happen to present clubs Mohun Bagan, East Bengal? Once they come in, will ISL share their profit with them?
In short, this is their business model of Reliance Group-Short League and why will they merge? They dont need FIFA/AFC rules hoverring over them. They will make more profit this way. Let the two leagues continue.
FIFA and AFC wants India in the world map as soon as possible because of pure commerce and I have no objection to that.
Hope FIFA takes strong action on unsanctioned leagues in the world football. FIFA already in the mandate of Third party ownership once this law applicable to world, IMG cannot sign any players directly clubs should sign.
AFC always tells to build strong domestic league which is longer in duration.
If FIFA and AFC money is not bearing fruit, I could see strong action will be taken on AIFF. Unlike BCCI , FIFA is very strong organisation and you cant bend rules based on your prefrences.
FIFA and AFC will intervene now or later. Will be waiting for that.
Only merging options is left for ISL either forecfully by law or IMGR exit plans after sucking out as much money as soon as possible.
We can talk about success or failure after 3 years not now ... as always NFL/I-League kicked off very well when it was started. Including BFC, first year it was successfully and fans turned based on the performance ... as a spectator wait and watch how things fold in future...
Only hope is India playing WC and strong domestic league. there is no anti -I-League or Pro ISL or vice versa ...
Reliance Group is involved with Indian Football only because of this IPL Style League. Cannot close it and cannot continue with it with FIFA rules. So I guess unless AIFF/FIFA find a new alternative, two leagues I-League and ISL will have to be there. How BCCI do it- Ranji Trophy aka I-League and IPL like ISL.
In the evening of 14 October, the FIFA delegation attended an Indian Super League (ISL) game, a goalless draw between Alessandro Del Piero's Delhi Dynamos and David Trezeguet's FC Pune City. The FIFA Secretary General was impressed by the enthusiasm of fans in the stadium. However, he also warned the AIFF: “The ISL, for FIFA, is not a league but a tournament. We recognize the I-League as the official championship of India. The ISL with all its stars helps also to develop football inIndia, but we must make sure that we are all together with one goal - to develop football in India and help India play in the World Cup sooner.”
don't play with words. FIFA doesn't recognize it as a league is NO news, of course it is not a league. But they consider it as a tournament. Do not forget my response was for @maddie 's post who said/implied FIFA and AFC should ban ISL. I am responding saying (1) AFC already congratulated AIFF, (2) FIFA has reacted to this, never saying this is not illegal.
Everyone knows I-League is the official league till now. In fact, the the article implies that FIFA recognises it as a tournament. There is, for now, no question about FIFA or AFC banning it.
I meant if AFC and FIFA money is not producing results means they will evaluate situation, because of ISL domestic league is getting jacked. If this doesn't bring into AIFF, fifa or AFC might take action on AIFF. If AIFF make ISL as official top tier league, FIFA and AFC will be very happy if under rules and regulations. Will IMGR leave the hot property? Will clubs have deep pockets to sustain complete season? Will marquee players agree for long term? Will glitz and glamorous can take year long? Will 8*6 Indian players is enough for national roster?
Most of the key position occupied by alliens. Will India improve as complete footballing nation? Can India NT perform better under ISL/ I-league / fed cup structure?
Only time is hope and answer.
If these things doesn't work out surely fifa /AFC will look into the matter later if not now.
Fifa and AFC motive is to see India in global map.
That was epic moment when they asked to cheer for Abhishek and he was booed like hell. Nita Ambani also got a lot of boo. Only FC Goa owners were cheered especially Srinivas Dempo.
