JLN Delhi Stadium was built for 1982 Asian Games and then rebuilt for 2010 Commonwealth games. JLN Chennai was basically Corporation Stadium for Cricket at Madras, it was rebuilt for SAF Games in 1995 and then again renovated last year. Salt Lake Stadium was built in 1984, used for SAF Games 1987 but then it badly awaits renovation. All attempts have been partial, like closing it for Artificial Turf or replacing Floodlights or so called bucket chairs for ISL. Unless Calcutta gets a major Sports Event like SAF Games, National Games, funds will not come from Central Government for building of Stadium.
DY Patil is fantastic. Its actually one of the best stadiums of India for cricket. Its new, well maintained and best of all its private. You will not be disappointed. But, I seriously feed bad for Salt lake stadium. Lets just fucking demolish it and build a stadium with 50000 capacity. Acually build peoper football stadium. About the missiles and all that stuff. Make the stands a bit far. I mean not as far as we have now with the athletic track. But, someway in between of that. This way we will see proper match day environment. But, will people respect the facility?? People of kolkata are known to be extremely violent particularly for those who vist I-League matches because they are hardcore fans and cheap FANS. For them football is not entertainment its passion. Be it a Rickshawaala, or a chaiwalla or student. Its pure passion. But, audience we see for ISL is good crowd. Its all middle class to upper middle class people. No offences to anybody.
I am just hoping that one day we can see ISL teams building their own stadiums like we see now in MLS with Soccer-specific stadiums. It is 100% not feasible right now but surely in the future I would like to see that.
Real Estate is very very expensive in India. Lets see what Bangalore FC manage to do in their Stadium Project. They are getting free land in City Center!!!! If Government can give free land, private builders can make a model of stadium +Academy+Mall+Office Block. Maybe we can renew old stadiums in this way.
That is what I was thinking and why I say that Bengaluru FC could become the model club for India. They can get the first "football-only stadium" in India and potentially if they move to the ISL increase their quality and show how to really connect with their fan base.
JLN in delhi is a multi purpose stadium like most Footy stadiums but its too Huge to create any atmosphere. Also look at the distance between the pitch and the stand. I would rather watch matches in TV than visit the stadium where i have this much space between me & the pitch.
As far as Chennai is concerned, The pitch is a lot more closer to the stand despite having a running track. Its manageable too and you can get a massive atmosphere as the stadium holds max 40K. 20-25 K is the average attendence and the atmosphere is awesome. Happy fans would point out.
Best would be BFC, Small stadium so fans can be packed and lot more closer to the pitch.
