The teams did sign better players but it was easy when you have a 2-3 month league. You can basically sign a top player and he will accept 2-3 months payment and stay in India... especially since the season ends before December so he can move on in January.
The problem here is overspending and a potential lack of parity. First off, we need parity in this league. A fan of a team like NorthEast United may see his team finish last this season but it would be cool to know that if they make some smart moves then they can potentially do a 180 and finish as a top team next season and vice-versa. We can not have superclubs which is what a non-salary cap would do. Teams that fans know will never win the ISL will all of a sudden have a decease in attendance because "we will never win" and India has a culture where you need to win to gain fans... its an obvious fact.
You also got the fact that big-market teams would be those giants. Mumbai City, Delhi Dynamos, and Atletico de Kolkata would wipe the floor in terms of signing players. Chennaiyin also. Good luck FC Goa because you guys are not a marquee market!
Also, the I-League coaches are gone next season. Arthur Papas is gone and Trevor Morgan is most likely gone as well. I am sure some of the Indian coaches will be told to fuck off as well. Some players like Orji, Ozbey, Barisic are also gone as well as some Indians like Avinabo Bag or Mohammed Rafi. A lot of changes are going to happen.
True and I probably should not have worded it in a way that said you guys would never get big players but that you guys won't get first choice of sorts. Look at Silvestre, he knows now that he would rather Goa than Chennai... this will probably happen for a lot of players.
Some guys will just be like "I have heard of Mumbai, it is a massive city and will probably have the bars, clubs and shit" and will go there and then next season would give FC Goa a shot.
And they will be like Delhi is the capital city. Lets go there. But, they dont know that delhi got less fans. But, metro cities can offer good lifestyle. I mean obviously it got no beaches and all that stuff but they can offer bars, pubs, other things of highest class.
Of the metros bengaluru is the one with best night life... once BFC enters ISL they could get stars at ease.... then might be mumbai and delhi... Kolkatta will ever have a spanish touch i would say....
Chennai could be the one missing out in long term with lifestyle thing among metro cities...
Hopefully Atletico de Kolkata will have a rebrand one day... does anyone really think they can stay as "Atletico de Kolkata" forever.... they are a puppet team like New York City FC.
@mohammed_87hassan I meant the life style of city chennai... we are know to be more conservative and not a night life style people usually..... because for footballers who earn a lot they like to spend a lot blindly too mostly...

@mohammed_87hassan Who founded Madras and Fort St. George? British ruled and lived in Madras(Chennai) for 300 years. Now you are saying that a Foreigner Footballer cannot play or live in Chennai? They are Professionals and they buy decent Lifestyle with the money they earn wherever they live.
