How is a state league a threat to the annual circus?? The circus will hire all the players they want...it is only the local players and regional players who will play any state league along with random Africans.....GPL has never been a threat to the circus, that is an illogical argument
Not a threat directly. But popularity of anything with MB-EB in it would jeopardize ATK's standing, thereby hurting the circus indirectly. Plus, complications of having stadium if they are on simultaneously.
Brngal league would do very well without YBK ..hopefully it would also spur interest in better maintainence of stadia upcountry...GPL has ensured some wonderful playing surfaces and mini.stadia across goa...
@deepakc CFL is one of most watched league in Indian television with very high trp. Aunty fears CFL will soon outrun ISL in TV ratings it will be a massive shame for IMG and aiff so they are sabotaging CFL. Just Think why will star who was telecasting CFL with 14 cameras and Drones which are much more then I-league suddenly dump a cash cow?
Derby of big 3 has a huge following agreed but I am not sure all other clubs have similar following in the current format
Whatever be the reason for Star sports leaving , it must be looked at as an opportunity by all stake holders....infact if anything Big three should lead the way as it is in their interest to have a competitive league going for 6-7 months with the bench strength playing "away matches" upcountry...
Inway its something Bengal football fraternity has to decide
Star Group leaving is a blessing in disguise, let Sony or Zee grab the opportunity to break their monopoly. Once Sony or Zee start providing quality telecast then Star would have only ISL to show of in 2016-17. What would happen in 2017-18....nobody (not even AIFF) knows. Let them decide the place for the road first..... before presenting roadmap....meanwhile let us enjoy non Star Group telecast. Also if the Durand Cup is also organized by IFA & Mohun Bagan, EB, BFC, 2-3 Goan teams participate....it will be a great pre I-League show in November. Matches can be played in Maidan, Barasat & Final at RS Stadium.....quality telecast by Sony or Zee..... a mouth watering prospect
There is no way AIFF can come out of the IMGR deal beforr 15 years unless Reliance crooks burn their hand and pull out.
CFL will not go unbroadcast. It has a huge domestic demand. The local Bengali channels will be eying this. 24 Ghanta is of course Zee subsidiary, so that could be a signal for their renewed interest in Indian football if they take that up.
A lot of sports channels are begging for content. Star Sports has monopolized almost every major event broadcast in India. Entry of ESPN has kind of restored bipolarity.
I would like to see Neo, Zee form a consortium and bid for some football property in India. Even Sony ESPN could challenge it considering they have related football content lined up over the years. But the biggest barrier is the 15yr deal.
Star Sports hasn't really monopolized the sports broadcasting business. They just do a really good job of marketing the television properties that they do have.
I don't think either Ten or Sony could've turned Pro Kabaddi into a success the way Star did.
Probably not a popular opinion but I'd prefer if the top football leagues of India were broadcast on Star, as long as they do a good job of marketing it.
A non-STAR channel telecasting CFL is interesting idea. But if if we remember, IFA did struggle earlier to sell the TV rights of CFL and IFA Shield. Few years back they had only regional channels broadcasting. So we should not be over-enthusiastic and should hold our horses back.
