    Deb,

You are benchmarking our senior team against af, my and philipines. This is the u-17 team we are talking about. Am proud to say we are now equally good as the saudi's and UAE in u-17 level. Our benchmark should be to be aimed at Japan, Iran and korea as the next step.

Brics cup next will further strengthen our benchmark against other teams.

They are just 16+. What happens when they turn 19+, 23+, and on. How many will get teams (clubs), and even more, playtime there. How many of them can the 'system' absorb (that is if we have a system).

This bunch is good, not denying that. But quality dropped when they had to play without 4-5 regular players. Which means the base is not big enough to fill up the places of the injured. And that is what we need: widening of the base. It is beyond the AIFF's capabilities to devise such a system in India. They fail, and we perennially have the junior teams impressing the critics, but the senior team lagging.

But of course, we should emulate Japan, Korea and Iran. In the meantime, find out a fix for Af, Myanmar and Philippines overtaking us. Oh, and Tajiks and Turkmen as well ...

  • Can atleast 2 of the last teams extend their India stay by a couple of weeks more so that we get to play few more friendly games against the best in Asia?

I don't think these U16 players have clubs waiting for them eagerly to come back and play in the league.

I mean they are here already, why cant the AIFF arrange hotels for their extended stay. Their return tickets can be postponed.

Talked to a few Australian fans about the situation and it is actually a lot more "dubious" than I thought but not surprising. Ya, there is a current change in coaching styles in Australian soccer and more academies and better structures for leagues coming up but an age old problem for them which is probably seen everywhere is players who have not earned their spots ending up on the team.

In this case, it is almost all the players who are part of the FFA Center of Excellence. A lot of the better players for Australia apparently play for the A-League academy teams and if they did not make it, they were put into the FFACE and for the coach of the Australia U17 side, Tony Vidmar, if you did not join the FFACE then you were not going to make the U17 side unless of course you have connections.

Explains a lot but no excuse. Unleashes some demons which plague the game.
