I-League champions Aizawl FC starts finding their new coach, sensing their title-winning coach Khalid Jamil will most likely be not available for the forthcoming season. Thangboi Singto, the former Shillong Lajong coach, who has delivered in every difficult situation since his tenure at the Shillong based club has recently parted ways. The Aizawl side didn’t waste the opportunity and started negotiating the possibility to appoint Thangboi as their new coach.
Thangboi told www,xtratime.in ,”Yes, I am in talks with Aizawl FC. Though we are yet to reach into a concrete deal. They realized my availability and contributions to Indian football so far. Lets see how thing go from here on.” He added, “I also have offers from Mumbai FC and a few other clubs.”
Shillong Lajong FC and its head coach Thangboi Singto has ended their eight-year long association after the club did not renew his contract owing to uncertainties over the I-League’s future.
Singto has been associated with Shillong Lajong FC since 2009 as an assistant coach before taking over as the head coach in 2012 after the club sacked Desmond Bulpin.
During his stint in the first year with the club in 2009-10, the club ended up with a runners-up trophy at the Federation Cup. Its best performance came in 2011 when it reached the semifinal of the Federation Cup, the IFA Shield and the Durand Cup.
In 2011, the club won the Independence Day Celebration Invitation Football Tournament in Mizoram and also the Meghalaya Invitation Football Tournament.
Singto expressed regret at the non-renewal of the contract in view of the circumstances prevailing in Indian football.
“Lajong has told me that they are not interested to renew the contract with me. This is the life of a coach. I have to move on for the new challenge which is coming on my way,” Singto said.
The former Lajong coach has also been approached by a few ISL franchises for their youth development set up.
