Surely Indian Army would love to see India improve in game of football. There should be a closed door meeting between government officials of West Bengal, club officials from Mohun Bagan and GOC-in-C, Eastern Command Headquarters. It may be possible to convince Indian army officials to give necessary clearance at the highest level. It's time people in India should give more importance to sports other than Cricket.
Exception was given to Eden gardens in 1967 to build concrete structure as Eden gardens was destroyed by fans. The old ground was made of wood. After that no other structure can come up. In 2011, the already built structure was renovated. Did they raise the height or built any new stadium?
Okay, so, I think this was already asked (probably by me) and already debunked but why not... is there any other place Mohun Bagan can go and maybe build a new stadium? Same for East Bengal? I am all for renovating and stuff but if you are going to have to deal with the bloody Army and the fact that stadiums can not last forever then you might as well move and rebuild.
See the places where the clubs are one of the most well connected places as well as being in central kolkata. Even the YBK can be said to not have such proper transportation. As @proj da had and the open letter in fever pitch said you see the current places can attract crowd. While any other place they have to go to the outskirts of kolkata to buy the land which even then would be terribly expensive.
@munna219777 yeah.. I think you're right.... But as far as i remember 2 stands were completely razed down and made from scratch...entire stand made from scratch with new roof in eden gardens... If army dont give permission how could they again build new stand?
That issue is not completely clear to me also. For that, one has to really dig up in the actual contract/permission given by Army to CAB with regard to 1967 incident. Was it given to that structure only with restriction on height/area and new renovation complied with those conditions??? Army do not disclose so only some local with links to CAB can give more info on that.
As an outsider, I think that sahibs running Calcutta Football massively failed fans there. Eden Gardens should have been converted to Football only stadium while Cricket should have moved to Salt lake Stadium. Now its too late-clubs cant build any stadium with high land costs. Unless Calcutta host some SAF games (like they did in 1987) or National games and get central funding, new stadiums are difficult to come up.
@dhritaman7 eden entirely belongs to cab... Eastern command may own the land but they certainly dont own the stadium..it belongs to cab only..
@munna219777 i think if we can ask for permission from army then certainly they will give it...as for height and all that stuff...look at the height of eden gardens and compare it to these grounds...its certainly not that issue...im sure... You know what i think...these corrupt babus running football in west bengal are useless...instead of renovating the stadium, these people put the money in their pockets and tell that army doesnt give permission and all that bullshit
