Yes, just saw it in the Kolkata edition as well.

This is for U17WC! Which means no WC in grass-top YBK (the state govt will install grass in any case -- decision not connected to WC but more to complains of players receiving injuries).

And I don't mind. We get one extra in the process. And Sarobar is a football specific stadium. Plus the report mentions setting up of a football academy there.

This is a good news after a long, long period!

70 M x 1105 M (enough space to make it 110 M). Capacity 26,000; Built in 1961. There are spaces around to make practice pitches as well.

    I am confused.
Salt Lake Stadium artificial turf is being removed and to be made grass top. Salt lake Stadium will be used for U-17 World Cup?
Ravindra Sarovar Stadium is being taken over and will be developed for U-17 World Cup?

    Questions:-
    1) Two stadiums for U-17 World Cup?
    2) When two stadiums are under renovation, where will they play I-League till 2017?
3)Why this Kolaveri D about Hockey turf then? What has Hockey to do with U-17 World Cup?

This Rabindra Sarobar business is new. It was dead, sprung to life only yesterday. Till then YBK for U17WC. Hence getting back grasstop, throwing away hockey turf for practice pitches. Now this will stop as AIFF found Sarobar, probably because of too much complications with YBK.

The decision to go back to grasstop is independent, WC or no WC, due to many complains of injury.

Probably @Archak will be able to shed more light into this.

YBK is gonna be there for WC not the Rabindra Sarobar stadium. The article is a goof up. The author is confused. He says Rabindra Sarobar and then writes Salt lake stadium in brackets, NAH!! Something is not right. And to make rabindra sarobar stadium world class we will require lots of money. And lots of time as well. Its in shambles. As for salt lake stadium, its condition is also pitiful but still given the time we have( less than 3 years) I'd put my money on salt lake stadium.

@deb_ban the recent talks of AIFF going to lease the stadium from West Bengal government is still in planning stages. Most probably not for the u17 World cup but as a national stadium like Wembley and as a replacement location for the kalyani academy.

Hopefully not actually like a national stadium... we don't need a Wembley in India.
