@atuljg Delhi Metro is built by Government, not some businessman. By contrast Mumbai metro , built by private businessman has been a disaster with project extended very long, expensive and now further stage 2 and stage 3 have been cancelled. Delhi Airport metro built by private also closed down by loss unless taken over by Government. This Ahmedabad venue is given land by Government only. I see it more like an exhibition center, hotel, convention center. It remains to be seen whether professional football or athletics can be played there. Ahmedabad has never hosted any Sports Event like national games etc. so they were lacking a non-Cricket stadium. So this is welcome idea.
Delhi Model Metro development is what I meant. After Delhi Metro became successful, many other cities started to develop Metros based on the same model. Bangalore metro had started running, Chennai is at an advanced stage. Kochi is all set to start operations this year. Trivandrum metro construction is also set to start this year. Several other cities are also building metros. All this happened because of Delhi Metro's success. And about the Airport Metro, it's very much running, though at a loss now. But, it'll turn profitable once it's extended to Gurgaon which is very much under process.
DMRC doesn't receive any government subsidies now. Sreedharan claims to make a 2 crore profit per day at Delhi. Only the Airport metro is operating at a loss now and that also will change soon after the link with Rapid Metro Gurgaon. Mumbai and Bangalore are not yet fully functional to assess and the others are at construction. So, let's wait till we jump guns.
DMRC has huge loans from Bank of Japan and ADB , thats where the main funding comes from. So whatever profit they make, its all operating profit and needs to be put back, either to run operations or to pay back loan money. DMRC cant lay10 kilometers of new line without borrowing again at the present.
Of course, you'll need to borrow to build infrastructure. Moreover, these are soft loans with close to nil interest and a pay back of around 30-40 years. Financially, DMRC is in a good position and shows no signs of becoming an Air India.
A 60000 capacity Guwahati Cricket Stadium is now almost complete. So, next year, ISL matches could be shifted here to utilize the massive crowd support in the North East.
I just suggested it for the comfort of the fans and to accommodate more people. It's my belief that Guwahati is also football crazy like Kerala and can fill the stadium. If not, we can revert back to the athletic stadium.
Was Navi Mumbai and Kochi that bad? Let the organizers decide!
