Elliptical shaped Athletic stadium is much better for witnessing Football then Circular Cricket Stadium. Moreover Cricket stadium has Pitch problem in the center and often they are booked for months in advance. better stay away from cricket stadiums when you have option.
I have been to all types. We have few big Football specific stadiums in India. But athletic stadiums with elliptical shape is definitely better then circular Cricket stadiums. very close stands is also not advisable for security reasons because of stone throwing incidents. In Cricket stadiums, good view is not there for those close to central part of the ground. Whenever any big sports event such as National Games, SAG Games, Asiad/Commonwealth is hosted anywhere in India, it is mandatory to have a giant Athletics Stadium for Opening/Closing as well as Athletics and Football finals. we should utilise that structure for football rather then fighting all the time for busy Cricket stadiums. How difficult it has been to get possession of Kochi for football? D Y Patil stadium is now struggling to get Cricket so it was good that they got opportunity to host ISL>
The cricket - football war won't happen again now that we have 2 stadiums in Kerala. As of now, cricket will obviously get the higher priority and football will have to adjust.
I was updated about the Trivandrum stadium right from when it was planned and they were very keen to avoid an athletic track to make it possible for both Cricket and Football matches to be held there. They followed all of FIFA and ICC standards and used Melbourne Cricket Ground where both Cricket and Football is played as a model to develop the master plan.
@ArsenalFan700 New York City FC is supposed to play at Yankee Stadium. Thats a Baseball Stadium. That will be a weird seating arrangement and look for a football stadium.
@atuljg MCG is a nice model to follow. That is a true multipurpose Stadium with Rugby, Australian Rules Football and Cricket being played there. Football in Melbourne has moved to Melbourne Rectangular Stadium as in this AFC Asian Cup. Can they have Portable Cricket Pitch Removal at trivandrum stadium just like MCG so that they can fluctuate between Cricket and Football?
@munna219777 Yep, they are owned by the Yankees so they can play their rent free. The problem is not really the alignment, teams like Chelsea, Manchester City, and PSG have played at Yankee Stadium before and while many people complained about the view, many were able to deal with it.
The problem is switching from soccer to baseball because the Yankees and New York City FC play literally at the same time (NYCFC from March to November for 17-21 home games, Yankees from April to October for 81-96 home games) and well, the fields look completely different from other so it will be tough to switch.
This is only temporary till NYCFC can get their own stadium but the new owner of New York City is being a hardass about it and it probably won't happen till 2018-2020.

Wouldn't the distance from the stands be more in an athletic stadium. I haven't watched football from an athletic stadium, so can't really say.

Cricket stadium view is not perfect but it is consistent no matter where you are sitting.

I'll have to enquire if they'll be having portable pitch removal. Chances are it could be there.
