@ArsenalFan700 National Stadium Singapore is a different ballgame. Built by famous Arup Associates who built Beijing Bird Nest, Allianz Arena, Sydney Opera House. it can be used for Football, Rugby, Cricket, Athletics and Concerts. Its cost is 1.3 billion US Dollars. Thats what 1300 Crore rupees not counting the land.
@munna219777 Ya, it would cost a lot but I would hope in the future, maybe, we could get something similar and not the usual circular stadiums but like a proper athletics stadium and somehow be able to convert it if needed.
Sports ministry has recommended to finance ministry to Accord 'infrastructure status' for stadiums.
If approved, stadiums can be built by availing long term loans from banks at cheaper rates and will get other incentives from government. Currently, loans are given only for a 5-7 year term making stadium projects unviable.
Decision will be taken later this month and hopefully it'll be positive.
@ArsenalFan700 Sorry my wrong calculations. Singapore Stadium cost is 8700 Crore Rupees after conversion. So far our most expensive stadium JLN Delhi cost is 950 Crore Rupees only.
So that is around $150,000,000 (USD) (I ain't got no clue on inflation) if my calculations are correct. I know Red Bull Arena cost around $200 million and the MLS stadium in Philly costed $120 million.
Of course I am probably missing a few things out culture wise but a good stadium can be made even if we don't spend what the Singapore stadium costed. Although a mega stadium project the size of Salt Lake Stadium... modern wise, would cost a lot.
Don't compare these. PPP is an important factor. 960 crores in India is a huge sum as by PPP(Purchasing Power Parity) Indian economy is ranked 3rd best in the world. This means the purchasing power of 1Rs. is very good. 3rd best in the world. Indian economy is better than Singapore in the way that in terms of PPP, India is better.

Meanwhile this beauty in Houston costed under $100 million.

We should be able to build football specific stadiums also at a similar cost.
