If there is a political will, things can be done in India. Sadly, it takes more then 1 year to repair floodlights at Salt Lake Stadium, Calcutta.
Most of the infra-structure in preparation for the Lusofonia Games to be held in November this year is at an advance stage, though work needs to be completed in time.
A visit to the Nehru stadium on Tuesday evening revealed that the grass seeds which were imported from USA were sowed in the month of May to prepare the football pitch at the venue.
This was also confirmed by the stadium manager Guru Vernekar. He disclosed that the laying of grass at the pitch is 100 percent complete.
However, he agreed that there are many patches seen on the pitch outside the playing arena which is yet to be covered by grass, though the playing arena is near perfect.
Asked when these patches will be covered with the grass laid, Vernekar informed that they will be covered shortly.
“The contractor should be able to throw more light on this matter as to exactly when these patches will be covered,” Vernekar added.
Vernekar said that Nandan Heblekar from Bangalore is the contractor concerned with this job adding further that whatever procedure is to be followed to cover the pitch, will be followed by the contractor and that he cannot spell out how and when these patches will be covered.
Asked whether the pitch will be ready before the target date, he answered positively adding further that the target date is September 2013 and that positively everything will be completed by then.
“It should be ready by September and there is no other alternative to it,” he said further.
He also disclosed that all other civil work pertaining to dressing room, VIP lounge, press gallery, corporate boxes etc is on track and will be completed before the target date of September.
Asked what these so called ‘corporate boxes’ that he referred are meant to be, Vernekar said that these are the rooms which will be available for occupation.
Nice. Good thing is that Goa will host National Games also in future. So this infrastructure of Lusofonia Games will come handy for National Games. This will help Goan Football a lot.
