Our team has changed a lot since last 2010 Commonwealth Games. We were in Sandeep Singh era and he was booming goals on Penalty Corners. Now we cannot even push or stop the ball on PCs forget about scoring. England and New Zealand have improved a lot besides Australia. We need to see how our Group looks before commenting on CWG chances. We are doomed if two out of these 3 - England, NZ, Aussies are in our group. Then we cannot even reach semifinals.
In Asian Games, few years ago, China became a force. They defeated India in 2006 Asian Games. but now they just left the game I think. We have the best chance after 2002 to win Gold Medal in Asian games.
Honestly, like the Indian Super League, I feel this is also the wrong way to really break into India. Perhaps long-term this can work but I doubt it. Personally I would try to see if I could get some NFL teams to come to India and play a few games. A stadium like the Salt Lake Stadium or the Nehru Stadium in Delhi could really be good host venues for top NFL teams.
And the sport is not that bad, I was wrong about it, it is actually pretty interesting. Basketball and American Football are top sports that India should really get behind.
@ArsenalFan700 They should first popularise the game by showing NFL games on TV in India. Last year they were thinking about creating India-Pakistan rivalry in American Football but that fizzled out. This time they went into College way but College Sports is almost non-existent in India. Even age old Rugby is struggling to get a hold in India despite colonial legacy.
Physical games like rugby is a tough thing for an indian. Average Indians are not very well nourished nutritionally to withstand such physicality for a game's sake.
