Mumbai FC 'finds' sponsor in Playwin should not be a news. Playwin is a group company of Zee Group, who own Mumbai FC. Last year TEN HD, again a group company, 'sponsored' them, and this year, Playwin. It's basically idhar ka paisa udhar: no different from earlier years (may have an angle of converting black money as well -- in fact Playwin is the most profit-making company of Zee Group).
Clubs who don't have shirt sponsor are: Bengaluru (with all the hype about them), Pune, Bharat, Dempo, Salgaocar, Sporting Clube (their sponsor is also a group company). That leaves us with the list @goalkeeper posted above. Probably these clubs are not bothered, or are ignorant that shirt sponsorship brings money.
Well, ignorant they are not; none of the above clubs are either, that was said in a light vein.
In India there is a gray area here. Shirt sponsors think they own the club (maybe the contact is drafted like that). This makes the actual owners wary to bring sponsorship.See the Viva Kerala- Chirag Kerala saga, and MMB- KEB stories. United SC fought tooth and nails to get out of the clutches of their sponsors. Perhaps this is because of our under-developed professional club structure. Otherwise you don't change the club name when you change the sponsor.
Sorry for digressing. We may continue in a relevant thread.
Abhishek Yadav joins Mumbai FC The 6’2” striker shall ply his trade for Khalid Jamil’s side and will be available for selection against Salgaocar FC… Rahul Bali 10-Feb-2015 11:39:31 Abhishek Yadav has penned a deal with Mumbai FC for the remainder of the 2014-15 season. The former Mahindra United striker who has made 62 appearances for the Indian national team and scored 17 goals is the only player alongside Rohit Mirza from the city of Mumbai to have plied his trade for Mumbai City FC and Mumbai FC in the same season. “I enjoy playing under Khalid Jamil. Right now, the team is going through a rough patch but I’m sure we will soon turn the tide in our favour,” Yadav told Goal. Abhishek scored on debut for the Ranbir Kapoor co-owned franchise in the Indian Super League (ISL) and although his team finished second from bottom, he is optimistic of putting a better performance next season. “Yes, we didn’t get the best result in the inaugural edition of the ISL. Although I have to mention that the owners, Ranbir and Bimal Parekh were supportive of us throughout. I do believe that next season we shall put in a much improved display and certainly win the hearts of the millions of Mumbaikars,” he mentioned. The Mumbai FC skipper believes that the football action returning to Cooperage, Mumbai boasts of two venues for matches. “I have fond memories of playing at the Cooperage and it is certainly a positive that Mumbai FC can now play their home games there. Mumbai also has D.Y.Patil Stadium which is home to Mumbai City FC and famously hosted the ISL final. “I do believe that with the concerted efforts of Mumbai City and Mumbai FC, football in Mumbai will flourish in the years to come,” he remarked. m.goal.com/x/en-india/news/8785122
