Colaco is a good coach. But Indian football is more of politics then football. Its fine if he acts as stopgap coach before someone else is elected. He has achieved a lot & it is not right to get his image tarnished by taking the India job on long term basis.
Armando likely to coach India in up-coming 2014 WCQ
New Delhi: Seasoned Dempo Sports Club coach Armando Colaco is likely to be the national coach for the World Cup qualifiers in July, according to All India Football Federation (AIFF) sources.
A final decision on Colaco’s appointment would be taken in the AIFF executive committee meeting on Friday. Colaco, however, would be taking up the job on a short-term basis and be only responsible for the two pre-World Cup matches on July 23 and 28.
“The federation president Praful Patel is in favour of appointing a foreigner as the permanent technical director,” said an AIFF official.
“The Dempo coach is highly qualified and we believe he would be able to handle the pressure. If need be, he would remain the coach along with the technical director,” said the official.
AIFF secretary Kushal Das met the Dempo coach recently in Pune and offered him the assignment. Colaco, who has sought time to make a decision, would give his final consent after discussing it with his employers in Goa.
An AFC Professional license holder, Armand, as he is known in the football circle, holds an impressive coaching record in the domestic circuit. Apart from winning four I-League titles for Dempo, he also guided the Goa side to notable triumphs in Federation Cup and Durand Cup in the last few years.
Another factor that has definitely impressed the AIFF officials is Colaco’s record in international tournaments, mainly the AFC Cup. He once took Dempo to the semi-finals of the prestigious meet and this time, too, Dempo have already made the quarter finals.
