Actually, I was thinking about and it would not be a bad idea for United Sikkim to close down the professional side of the club for a few years and then come back. Clearly they were not ready for the I-League and currently, 6 points behind Air India (with Air India having 3 games in hand on USFC), they are sure to be relegated unless they can spring surprising results and Air India falters. Most likely it will not happen though.

United Sikkim should focus on Sikkim first. Develop the front office and the youth system and bring in sponsors gradually to help with the club. Try improving the youth development and even the Paljor Stadium and then once they feel they are ready they can come back. Sikkim despite its small population can still bring in 15,000-20,000 a game if they can have a good season.

If Baichung is willing to accept defeat for this season and rework the club and learn from his mistakes (Hiring De Ridder etc) then maybe the club can come back with a brighter future.

its tought getting spnsors in mainland india it will be 10 times harder to get it in sikkim.unless he gets official govermental help nothing gonna  happen. closing down the club n building it up for a few years and then reentering is fine in  theory as long as the finincial muscle is  there..Baiching is passionate about football but even passion can only run so much, to go all the way u need the money.

i wonder what will be his plan when USFC get relegated..it will be sad to lose sikkim from d indian footballing map.

  • Long term I would suspect would not have a mega toll if they are willing to step back. Yes, they will lose sponsors easily but Baichung can make a long-term plan that is convincing and use his contacts well (I am sure he has some) then maybe in 3-4 years we could see a return.

Yes, sponsors are hard to get below I-League (Even more of a reason to destroy that league that be not named) but Sikkim is still a good market for football and again they have Baichung. It will take time but they can do it.

Of course that is if they are relegated. Can they somehow stay up?
  • So United Sikkim plan to still be playing next season. Interesting. It also seems they have an idea of what they will do which is weird considering that if they are relegated they have a full year before the next Shit-League D2 campaign.

  • they can come back. Even Shillong Lajong was relegated but they still came back after qualifying thru Division-2.
