you are forgetting the most important aspect that the current I-League teams have..i.e they were part of the top most league for the last 'n' no of years and have always been fore runners in Indian football..when a new league starts they just cannot be thrown into jeopardy
this should be enough to put up an initial strong fight. other things against the ISL clubs would then come across
We have talked about this before and for gods sake I don't know why it is continuing. The league is what? 20 years old? Only East Bengal and Mohun Bagan have been mainstays in all 20 years and chances are they will probably be allowed in ISL. Clubs like Mumbai, Bengaluru FC, DSK Shivajians, Aizawl, and Shillong Lajong have barely been in the top division for that long, esspecially BFC, DSK, and Aizawl. And dealing with them come the merger will probably not be a hassle.
Again it just comes down to the Goan clubs: Sporting Goa, Salgaocar, and Dempo.
They won the league twice and a few Federation Cup's, mainly before this century. So what? And investments have been made but to what avail? They supposedly had one of the best youth set-ups in the country (although with many Goan members on this forum, the team that holds that distinction changes every few months) but where has it gotten us? What has it produced for Indian football? The club, like other I-League clubs, has kept Indian football stagnated for years now.
I believe Salgaocar have given a lot to Indian football since their foundation. They have esspecially given a lot to Goan football and are part of the reason it is as vibrant as it is today. You can go on and on about what Salgaocar have done for Indian football, and also Dempo.
And ya, Indian football would be dead by now but you could also say it has been dead for a long time... or at least barely breathing.

Do you believe that clubs like Salgaocar haven't done anything for Indian football..
Salgaocar FC has given good amount of players in international level including youth teams..
How can we expect from clubs when there are NO returns...Without these clubs, Indian football would have been dead by now..
