Don't mind waiting till November but I never thought about the clash with IPL... if, from now on, the league ends in March just cause we don't want a clash with IPL then that is criminal. Don't see it being totally realistic though since STAR Sports have no reason to do that (they don't have IPL rights) and the only other connection is the Ambani's owning Mumbai Indians.
IPL rights will be up for grabs after 2017 edition and I m sure Star Sports will go all guns blazing to get it to complete their acquisition of Indian Cricket. Though BCCI is demanding something between 1600-2000 crore per year for ISL Television rights.
East Bengal will be scarified. BFC and MB to get in modified ISL. MB will be allowed as they will be financially backed by SRK's red chillys. also a name change has been suggested for MB from next season it will be called Mohan Bagan Knight Riders. "AC" (Athletic Club) will be dropped.
@IndianFootballFan True but even then I wonder if they would mind. They already manage to do ISL and the India national cricket team just fine so they could also do ISL and IPL, especially if ISL turns to just weekends. They can also have IPL matches at 4:00 and start the football at 7 etc if they have to.
IPL matches are played in two slots, 04 PM and 08 PM with games every day. And there are matches in Hindi as well ad English commentary. So that will leave less room for ISL. Though they are already showing it on their Non-sports channels. So, wouldn't be much of a problem. Though I would prefer Sony to have the rights.
Not everyday had a 4pm game though but ya, if there was a 4pm game there was a 8pm one as well. Who knows. Either way, point is that we can probably make the two work together but question is whether STAR Sports would do that. We also have to a less extent the fact that ISL will definitely clash with the Hockey India League and maybe Pro Kabaddi League.
I think ISL will follow A-League model if it has 10 clubs or 9 clubs
Also lets assume next season we have 9 clubs Isl teams + BFC If each club plays each other 3 times 24 League matches + play offs Is it possible in 5 months??????
Also i hope they give Premiership trophy to League toppers Teams Like Chennaiyin FC in 1st season, Fc Goa in 2nd season and Mumbai City FC deserved a lot for finishing top of the table
The A-League has 10 teams with 27 games. Twice against each other in home/away for 18 games and then one more time for 27 and each team rotates each season who hosts... so for the fixtures Melbourne City vs. Central Coast Mariners, one season would be hosted in Melbourne, the other is hosted in Central Coast (the third game only, the first two games against each other would be home/away)
This can be done for when the ISL is 7-8 months but for now, with 5 months, we can do a simple 18 games.
And ya, surely should give a trophy to table toppers and some sort of Asian qualification (like MLS with the Supporters Shield). We could do what Liga MX does in Mexico? Instead of away goals, have it be that if a 2-leg semi-final ends 0-0 then the team that finished higher in the regular season table moves on. Problem would be that the team that did finished higher would probably play both legs for a draw and there would never be extra-time at all.
