@sanvedjadhav AIFF never gives you an opportunity to laugh or cry or rejoice, they can only confuse you as they themselves are totally confused caretakers of Indian Football.
now that 7 to 18/21 may is federation cup...when can we expect any major announcement regarding merger(if at all it will happen) or future of Indian football ? or wait till JUNE?
Merger ? That is not happening surely...IMG-R wants 15 crores....which neither of the 2 Kolkata Giants would give & rightly so. Goenka babu wants to own all Football fields in Kolkata & wouldn't let Kolkata Giants to play in the City where they belong since 1889 & 1920. They also want change of logo, jersey, name which is a foooolish day dream. So how Merger will take place. PP (Dhritarastra) & his associates (Gandharis) will be handed over a sanction by AFC & then Aunty will run away at Milkha Singh's speed & develop interest in Carrom & Ludo.
Now merger is more complicated now. Lets see how merger is possible without AFC inclusion. Ohh...that may be possible cricketer & bollywood actress "LETS FOOTBALL" team
6 years till the closed league model is taken away. Which in football years is less than a nights sleep.
This is all the more reason for people to not enter the top league and let it remain as it is. The franchise money or even half of it being kept aside every year and dedicated to purpose built stadiums, training facilities will place the richer i-league clubs in a far better position 6 years from now when it all opens up.
Mohun Bagan and East Bengal will rack up 75 crores EACH if they don't pay this fees. The government is more than likely to match their 75 and also allocate land in outer regions of the city like 'Newtown' for a stadium and training facilities.
In 6 years time they will be ready to walk in to the league with far far better facilities and stadiums than the franchise owners will ever have.
Issues:
1. Will Bagan and EB be willing to hold on to the money in hand and keep it away for this exact reason. Will their officials have the foresight to think this way and take a 6 year hit and concentrate on making their club bigger and better than ever.
2. The best people for this could be clubs that have walked away. Dempo and Salgaocar backed away from the i-League and ISL franchise. They are ideally placed towards taking a 6 year nap and coming back bigger than ever to the open league. The idea is to make Goan football stronger than it ever was. GR feeding Village Leagues feeding GFA Leagues feeding Professional Clubs.
3. The size of the carrot to play at the top is not being matched by the expectations by the people (FSDL) holding it. It's almost like that carrot becomes a stick- signing a deal with the devil. The costs and returns are not justified and the franchise fee seems like a rite of passage to get onto the speed dial of Anil Ambani.
4. IPL and ISL model comparison is a flawed concept. When any international cricket game between say- Australia and West Indies takes place people sitting in India have a far stronger connect as the players play for one of the clubs they support. Much like the connect the fans in the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Premier League have when they watch a world cup or continental championship.
The ISL offers absolutely no references and presence at the highest level of the game and neither will the foreigners coming here will step to a noticeable level in terms of a higher league or feature in a high profile tournament some place else. ISL remains a retirement home and last resort and falls behind in preference.
ISL clubs spend 40 crore per year in a foolish way paying 10 times more salary to an average player and someone like Bernard Mendy who isnt playing for any club now would end up being one of highest paid players in the league
Apart from FCPC no club cares about youth development hosting a single day program and boasting like they produced international legends
Thailand's top clubs run at a budget of 2-3 million sign great players and are excellent in youth development We must follow their model rather than Australia/USA
I am a Chennaiyin FC/ISL supporter but this merger issue is ridiculous clubs who have done nothing for Indian football become top division clubs while other clubs are being left to rot
Some one should seriously think about filing a writ in supreme court about this issue. Even though I am not sure about the legal formalities it is high time to think about such possibilities.
Nowhere else in the world you would see league champions getting relegated 。Aizawl should approach the court if they are dropped from top tier. Cannot really compare our football culture to the thais . Football is their no.1 sport .
