AIFF has been a colossal failure when it comes to running the game in the country. For a body that existed since the 1930s got their permanent home in 2006. Started a national league in 1996, after 60 years of existence and sold itself to a pricate company. No wonder our football structure is so messed up.
I don't think I-League was rising until recent times The era before BFC was complete failure
We had 14 teams all from 4-5 cities The goan clubs dominated it and crowds were very poor for Air India,ONGC,Pailan,United Sc,Mahindra,JCT and the goan clubs
Neither the game was fair and matches used to be fixed and won by shorelines like 14-0
It was during this time that random foreigners like Chidi,Penn came and dominated
I-League got interesting post arrival of BFC and removal of air India,Ongc,Pailan and as goan teams started becoming weaker
Now we rarely see those big scorelines and a lot has improved
Random foreigners like Chidi Penn propelled EB to AFC Cup semis. Enough said, not their fault if India can't nurture young kids and give them proper training
@mohammed_87hassan you have not seen pre bfc I league cause you started following after bfc entry. so don't talk rubbish about what you have never seen. and about the fixed matches you talked about are totally genuine matches. 14-0 was when dempo was the best team in India and in super form they lost to 2-1 to AFC champions league champion that year in play offs. air India was very weak team that season so they got threshed. you should talk more about how isl matches are fixed.
AIFF failed big time, agreed. But that doesn't mean AIFF quit the football space and sell the rights to IMG-R. Who failed were individuals -- PRDM before and PP now. More than India football, AIFF needs modern management ('Doctor, heal thyself'). And they should have undertaken some reforms.
AIFF could have energized the scenario a bit with some rules passed. Like limiting number of teams from a city/ state, Evening matches, not allowing teams with company names, 'prepping' the lower clubs before allowing them in. Post-reforms, they could have hunted some good sponsors. I still believe they themselves could bring sponsors. With more money flown in, academies would get a boost, clubs would be in the black, better foreigners would have come, resulting more popularity.
It all would start with small steps, but with big visions. And some inegrity. Sadly, all the three were missing.
I-league is not failure. It's fucking AIFF is grand failure.
1> No control over domestic structure 2> Horrible deal with IMG-R 3> No planning or forecast for development of the game 4> Unable to generate revenue or manage the revenue 5> How can we can elect who is failed miserably with Air India and political life
Enough said, I wish PP the same end like PriyaRajan DasMunshi at the earliest for the sake of Indian Football.
All the I-league should form the new Football-India Association. AIFF can't run without state association. FIFA/AFC should intervene and suspend the AIFF. I'm planning for All India protest during the U17 - FIFA World Cup to end the world's most inefficient and corrupt organisation which is sold to Aunty. With the help of EB/MB, Goa and North east surely we can make sure, our voices is heard to right people. I can't take this anymore with these moron's leading the AIFF.
This comes from a guy supporting BFC desperate to join the top league when the merger happened.
Its also weird that This "west block blues" fans suddenly grow a concience all over an unfurl that ugly black flag wherever when traditional regions and clubs do the right thing ie., Look and work towards a better future.
Get a life man and don't ruin the only thing AIFF has done bravely in decades (U-17 WC) in India go on smoothly.
Horrible arguments. You people are blindly blaming AIFF. IMG-R is paying 50 crores/year to AIFF,their biggest revenue source,. Why shouldn't they have signed up the deal with IMG-R? Do you think the entire Federation would run on debt from Indian Government? Just because you hate AIFF/IMG-R ,doesn't mean you throw up lame arguments! Indeed IMG-R came for IPL-style business, but atleast they extended their hands, when no one was ready to invest!

Why is their a partiality here between ISL and I-League
When ISL inflated attendance they are criticized
But when I-League teams report attendance less than 500 as 4k,5k nothing is wrong
IMG-R is paying 50 crores/year to AIFF,their biggest revenue source,.
