Last season player signings were legacy of PVP and sachin. Had things gone as per plan Muthoot would have overseen the players acquisition and likes of Arnie would have been in KB. What stopped them from that is because when PVP was about to sell his shares he also wanted Muthoot to take care of the debt from season 1 which Muthoot declined and shares were bought when PVP and co. cleared it. Meanwhile players acquisition started and with whatever little resources manageable they bought in the players. If players were mediocre then having a self defeating coach in the form of Morgan totally destroyed the team.
This season would give a true pic where KB are heading and finishing last is a blessing in disguise as i expect Muthoot to flex its financial muscle and go for better quality of players.
Chennaiyin has done really well in terms of local connection so far..just curious @DX , how popular is the club in Chennai? Like in terms of publicity?
Any club folding is not that big of a problem yet. The IPL has managed well at replacing their teams and so has the Hockey India League, replacing both Mumbai and Ranchi swiftly. Won't be easy in football obviously and certainly the last thing you want in any Indian league but we do have examples that should provide some relief.
Will be interesting to see how Kerala Blasters, NorthEast United, Delhi Dynamos, and even Mumbai City go about their seasons.
ISL had 18 bidders for 9 locations (for 8 teams)...after 2 seasons, surely theres a lot of interest from investors point of view. Dont think IMG-R will take much time to bring in new owners if any current owner withdraws
CFC has their own niche here. The main booster for crowds is the location. North part of chennai is predominantly and historically a football base. almost 90% of chennai state league teams comes from that part of the town, so no surprises that stadia has a good local population that supports it.
Add to the fact it next door to the central railway station which is the busiest part of the city so travelling is very easy.
You can add a few thousands who support anything that spells chennai on it especially after the suspension of super kings has added a few fans.
so in an avg 22k crowd the spilt would be 5-7k genuine CFC core supporters, 5-7k casual supporters who just need some push (fan clubs are not that properly mass yet) to be part of the core support. rest either curious, or want to enjoy a time put with families and friends etc, these can also be repeat customers.
Publicity wise they are still nascent and certainly can do better. I dont want them to have a false sense of security of having an avg good crowd, supporting an official fan club following is long pending desire here with few forming groups instead.
Oh, no, I wasn't asking relative to Chennaiyin FC, I was literally asking like, I know there is a lot of fanfare for Chennai Super Kings during the Indian Premier League season but then what happens in say... July or August, a month or two after the season ends? Do people just stop caring about the Super Kings?
I ask because I am just wondering if a 6-8 month league would really benefit Chennaiyin FC be able to convert some of those casual fans into more diehard types... more time spent with the team etc, more time for marketing etc.

Chennaiyin FC replaces Vivek Nagul with Syed Sabir Pasha as assistant coach
Led TN to its first ever santosh trophy final, last i heard was in AIFF elite academy?
Lets hope this further boosts a local image.

It did help season 2 but i would not rely on these temp shifting fans.
I could see a lot of difference between season 1 and now. Fans know what to expect in a match. The team being a settled one has helped further.
People now know Jeje, khabra, wadoo (regular starters) by visual description in a crowd itself.
Offcourse the crowd fav is still elano, mendy and mendoza.
