  • He is easily the best we had after IM Vijayan until 2006-07 before he started all that drama to prolong his career and rake in as much lucre as possible fully cognizant that time was running out. I have seen United Sikkim play a few practice matches early on this season, honestly I did not find anything exceptional about the team, except one Sikkimese player on the wings (which one I don't remember). Govin Singh showed promise but he has enough deficiencies in his technique, definitely nowhere close to Mahesh Gawli. Stanley Rozario as a coach is very very poor with his match reading and strategy innovation, maybe Ryder can do better. Honestly I think Mahesh Gawli did not receive the accolades he deserved and had a pretty quiet exit. I rate Mahesh Gawli much much higher than Sunil Chetri, almost equivalent to Baichung, off course without the drama which comes with the Baichung package since 2007-08

Ah you could argue that Gawli was better than Chhetri. Of course though the media and AIFF think that football is all about the strikers and that the defenders dont matter.

From what I have seen from Facebook and youtube videos United Sikkim look like a good team that will get promoted BUT if they were currently in the I-League they would be relegated or close to relegation. When/If they get promoted they need to focus on players.

Also when you saw them, if you did with Rozario still there than Sikkim was still shit because the players know Rozario would leave so chemistry in the team was ruined and if it was with Ridder than it was because the Sikkim players were still learning his style.

Well actually I dont support Chhetri for reasons you know already. I do support Baichung though. He has brought the media and attention the Indian Football that others could not. Sure what he did was only play in the 3rd division of England but still what he did off it is what I like. Baichung is an inspiration to others and you can not deny that. He brought us United Sikkim for gods sake. Probably a team that in a years time will be more professional than Pune FC which is our currently best professional club in India. (off field)

Also what is wrong with playing the B team. They are already through to the Final Round. So what if they helped Aizawl a little. Both Aizawl and ArHima have no hope of making the I-League anyway.

Can't blame Sikkim for playing a 2nd string team after securing qualification, this is why AIFF should change format to prevent this happening. The risk of playing the strongest XI is too much, apart from the injury concern & wanting to test the bench strength, the below cards & red cards carry to the next round, so its vital to rest players where possible
Teams should benefit( seedings) from finishing top of the table and this will ensure teams fight to the end.

Thats as far as Utd Sikkim should be praised !
They are not more professional than Pune FC , this is all MEDIA spinning by Bhaichung again ,
Renedy , Sushil, anju all left because they didn;t get paid for over 3 month !! ( this would never happen at PFC )
Stanley got sacked just before, again this doesn't show professionalism of the likes of PFC who have signed the coach on a very long term deal.
Lastly Sikkim have played dirty politics ( Kolkata style) in both this years & last years 2nd division , and the fact that Bhutia requested that the 2nd leg get played in Sikkim & Siliguri, just goes to emphasize that point even more.
also what ever happened to Bhaichung being banned for D2 after his antics against that Bengal team in the 2nd game ?

Mohd Sporting / Wahingdoh , SESA or Vasco can make it through now

What I meant there is after Sikkim make the I-League. Pune FC were the same as Sikkim before being promoted. It was not until they were in the I-League that Ashok started putting money into the team. I see that when Sikkim is promoted then Fiddels World will play a bigger part and plus Sikkim would finally gain ticket sales from I-League games.

Also there was never a verdict. People said they wanted Baichung banned but AIFF said no.

Also what is wrong with having the Final Round in Sikkim. Where else. Mohun Bagan Ground or East Bengal Ground? Hell no.

Pune FC was much much more professional even before I –league I entry. They had long term vision. They had long term contracts for the players, good, informative website from day one, had Stuart Hall as coach, had regular press releases, have a good academy, good marketing (see their sponsor list) and above all had taken an world cupper – first time in India -- (from Jamaica I think), while in division 2.

Pune FC cannot be compared with USFC; no way.
  • Pune FC can be compared actually.

You can say that Philippe De Ridder is equal to Stewart Hall

Sikkim may not update there website but they update there Facebook a lot

Sikkim have a former legend on there team in Baichung

Sikkim have Nike, Fiddles World and other sponsors

Pune only started there Academy in 2010 not when they were in the 2nd Division

Sikkim also has a long term vision.

You can most certainly compare both United Sikkim FC and Pune FC. I bet that USFC will take off after promotion.

BTW why are all the Kolkata people hating on United Sikkim all of a sudden?
  • Deb_BanDeb_Ban 10106 Points
Well, I pointed these things out not out of hatred towards USFC, just that I feel PFC IS a more professional club. I think USFC is the best thing that happened to Indian football, after PFC & Mumbai FC (pity they did not live up to the promises shown at the beginning). Please do not bunch comments on the basis of the commenter’s states.

Oh, while we are about it: De Ridder does not hold an A license, so no comparisons to Hall. Fidelis are not the sponsors, they are the owners/ promoters (sponsor is Bengal EMTA, a mining company – not a mainstream corporate). And Baichung is co-owner, doubling up as a player (I mean not recruited).

of these teams i dont think aizawl, kalighat and also the direct entry ongc to hold any chance in promotion
    but would be a real battle among vasco, usfc, rwfc and mohd. sporting... <!-- s:happy-jumpgreen: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/happy/jumpgreen.gif" alt=":happy-jumpgreen:" title="Green Jump" /><!-- s:happy-jumpgreen: -->
