We are sad to announce that former #KEB player Masood Fakhri has passed away at the age of 83.

Masood Fakhri, ex-East Bengal football star from Pakistan, no more

    Nilesh Bhattacharya| TNN | Sep 13, 2016, 05.14 PM IST
KOLKATA: Masood Fakhri, a legend in Pakistan football who had played for East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting in Kolkata in the 1950s, passed away in Wales last week.

According to information received here, Fakhri — who was one of Pakistan's few football superstars and scored the first international hat-trick for the country — breathed his last at his residence in Wales on September 6. He was 83.
Fakhri represented Pakistan from 1952 to 1956. He became the first player from the subcontinent to score an international hat-trick when he had netted four goals in Pakistan's 6-2 win over Singapore in the 1954 Asian Games in Manila.
He decided to leave Pakistan in 1957 and settled in UK, hoping to make a mark in English football. He had since spent most of his career playing in third and fourth divisions of English football.
However, Indian football fans of the 1950s would remember him for his stint with East Bengal from 1952 to 1954 and Mohammedan Sporting from 1955 to 1956.
He was part of the East Bengal squad which took part in the Romanian youth festival tournament and exhibition matches in Soviet Union in 1953.
Fakhri, who usually played as a left-winger, had scored 14 goals in the Calcutta Football League.
During his days at East Bengal, he also scored goals in his first two derby clashes with Mohun Bagan and helped his team win on both occasions.
He also became the first East Bengal player to score four goals when he achieved the feat during a match against President's Estate in the DCM Trophy in 1952.
Remember hearing his name from a story by Moti Nandi--Rest in Peace!

East Bengal officials are adding some new players both foreigners as well as Indian players for the upcoming Bordoloi Trophy in Assam and Sk. Kamal International Club Cup in Bangladesh.

East Bengal is in talks with Daniel Bidemi of Mohun Bagan and Leonce Dodoz of Mohammedan SC for Bordoloi Trophy. East Bengal will play in the Bordoloi Trophy from 21st September after their CFL campaign ends on the 18th of September against Aryan Club. The club officials are not happy with Adeleja’s performance in the Calcutta Football League which East Bengal won for the record seventh time.

A meeting was held today between goal-keeper coach Abhijit Mondal and club’s interim coach Ranjan Chowdhury who will take charge of the team from Bordoloi Trophy in absence of Head coach Trevor Morgan and his assistant Richard Dryden where they have decided that they would give a proposal to Bidemi for Bordoloi Trophy because after CFL his contract ends with Mohun Bagan, same goes for Mohammedan Sporting Club’s forward Dodoz as they both have showed their class in Calcutta Football League.

Not only foreigners, the Red and Gold officials have also knocked the doors of few Indian players who have done well for the respective teams in CFL 2016 in the likes of United SC’s Suhair VP and Mohammedan SC’s Manvir Singh. The monetary talks are on and the deal is not yet finalised.

Though it is not sure if the foreigners would agree with the terms and conditions regarding the offered money . As of now we all know that East Bengal have contract with Calum Angus and Do Dong Hyun for Bordoloi Trophy, now we have to wait and watch for the final decision as the coach and the officials of East Bengal Club will take their decision regarding the third foreigner after the CFL ends.

Seems like some good moves for East Bengal here. Why are Trevor Morgan and his assistant absent?
