Exactly. What makes a loyal fan? Does not matter who you support, be it Manchester United or ONGC FC, its how you support them and not having the nerve to give up a little money to see a professional football match of your "favorite" team is not showing loyalty at all.

So, having money and being ready to spend that is the criteria for being 'loyal'.... Goodbye blue sky

Not exactly. Their is a difference between supporting and being loyal. When you pay for your ticket you are helping your club and in reward you get 90 minutes of entertainment.

Now as we all know all the clubs are running at a loss? Why is that? Yes sponsors etc are to blame but how much does ticket sales matter? Quite a lot, maybe not in revenue but say for example a potential sponsor comes along. They wont put their money into the team unless they receive something back. Most ticket revenue is taken in for sponsors. Perhaps not in the EPL but in MLS we do that. I know Japan does that as well. In countries where the sugar daddies are not involved is where this is done.

    1) In terms of sponsorship - You need eyeballs for ur products, so technically all those people in the world who follow East Bengal who never visit the stadium are still under consideration for Kingfisher as they still watch the team - in TV, in internet...everytime a person shares a photo of a player in jersey is advertising for Kingfisher...that is why companies sponsor...everytime a Churchill fan sees his player he knows the existence of NVD...everytime u see barca player even if u never go to watch them u know something called qatar foundation...next time u see anything else with NVD, Qatar foundation etc., you can associate with the team u love....Anny company who sponsors don't ONLY look at how many visit stadium, they also look at how many watch them, listen about them, follow them...thats who capitalism in sports work...this doesnt mean ticket prices dont matter, what this means is that ticket prices is NOT the main target for a sponsor...thus, a company knows that a lot of people watch a team (either in stadium or elsewhere) or even team players, then why would consider sponsoring even if gate receipt is not that much...

    2) secondly, my comment had nothing to do with finances, I am just saying what you are describing is a supportive fan...but a loyal fan may exist who cant be supportive...what stuck me about the above conversation was that kind of definition given for a loyalist...maybe we can think of a class of fans who are loyal but not supportive fans (for variious reasons)

I will give an example - I am a supportive fan of Real Oviedo because I have bought their share trying to help them in crisis...but that doesn't mean the guy who really feels for Real Oviedo but can't fish out any money is less of a fan than me.... in fact, I know nothing much about them, dont follow them that much, still I have some contribution, because I could....but many are hardcore fans, who couldn't help them like me...these are still loyals, but not supportive
  • You know what, forget it. The original conversation was about how fans get free entry into games anyway and how we can solve this because we can not move on with that.

With some home support, even a dead man would come and play with enthusiasm– Air India’s Anthony Fernandes

So games return to Salt Lake Stadium on 19th January but time shown is 2:00 PM. This means Flood Lights are still not working. So what was this renovation for if matches are to start at 2:00 PM and floodlights not repaired?
