OCI change only makes sense if that helps in accelerating the process to enable that player to play for NT (which seems unrealistic in current state), implementing 3+1 rule of AFC is the need of the hour.
Performance of clubs will suffer if we have less Foreign players.
OCI is misunderstood. Most india origin players you see do not possess OCI card. Just because someone is Singh or Kumar born in foreign country does not mean that he will get OCI card. One has to qualify for it with proven family links.
Can Aryn Williams or Roy Krishna or Onid Singh show their OCI Card ? The answer is No because they do not possess it.
@munna219777 agreed about OCI, but we need to have max 4 foreigners in the playing 11, otherwise teams will suffer during AFC tournaments since they'll have to change strategy to play with only 4 foreigners.
Whatever it is , ensure only those players who are interested to play for India and can become eligible to play in 3 years timeline are given chance under that quota (coz they need to stay in india for 11 months or so, to apply) . Probably someone like Omid singh (who is interested) will be given an opportunity via this...
Else no way we can see an Indian National football team playing in a worldcup in our lifetime.... Need to keep supporting brazil or argentina or germany in WC....
Asian teams like Japan, South Korea & Iran have stepped up their levels to European standards.... So they will be automatic choices to WC from Asia...Australia, Qatar & Saudi Arabia will take the remaining place.. Doors closed forever....
With the current crop of players without any game intelligence and playing 18 domestic games per year, we will continue to remain in SAFF level forever.... The u19s too are poor... no future for Indian football....
If u cant make, buy.,,,, Once we get into WC once, sponsors will pour in... valuations & feasibility of clubs will rise and then probably we can invest in grassroots and try to develop by organising more competitions throughout the year.....
@dev_pfc Only two clubs (One of ISL and one I-League) play in AFC Tournaments out of 21 I-leagye and ISL clubs. We cannot make everybody suffer because of that plus those two clubs which play in AFC are hardly giving it a top priority.
Chennaiyin refused to play even once at their home stadium last season. They can make the necessary adjustment as most AFC Cup games are after the season.
Things might change from 2021 with ACL slot. More money in subsidy is given to clubs for ACL and hopefully clubs will hire better balanced team.
If you have depth in the squad, club can play whetehr it is 3+1 or 5 Foreigners.
As per 2018 the price increase still paid only 1.5 m $ for AFC Cup. I could not find whats the participation Fee for ACL though. I'm sure that's likely to be in 150k range.
@Maddie but theoretically we have no chance to win it. We might not even be in R16. But even if they win it they might get 10 Cr.
Clubs like ATK are losing 45Cr every season. There has been a lot of slack given by other ACL participants that they make more money domestically in cup tournaments for less games. AFC are forced to do this increase. Especially with big money countries like China, Middle east and Australian economy. This money does not account to much for them.
