we do have enough multipurpose stadiums. need to work on them. pitch & proper drainage ( 1st and foremost ) stands with seats, good facilities for media, good dressing rooms isn't hard to build. they are much more cheap than a brand new football specific stadium.

We HAVE stadiums, though multi-purpose ones. But where we suck is at routine maintenance and the lack of knowledge regarding use of them.  We tend to use the main turf for daily training plus stadiums are shared by different entities. If we just shift some of the training activities to some practice grounds outside the stadiums, we can protect the main turf from overuse.

Not only stadiums, we fail at maintaining ANY public facility/ utility. This is more of a culture thing.

Stadiums should be built by Public-Private-Partnership. 100% Public Stadiums almost always end up as dead investments with minimal returns for the government. You can't expect the public servants to recover the money they invest. They usually do it as a service. But Corporates do it to get a return and a successful stadium is a must for them. With a competent private partner, Stadiums can end up as a good cash cow. Government can also include a share of profits in the deal with the private partner.

Good Joke. This stadium is owned by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation thats why Thackeray is saying that as their party heads the Corporation. Why will they host it there when WIFA already own Cooperage Stadium. This stadium is permanently booked for events like Filmfare awards, shootings, marriage functions, Dandiya.
I once attended one Friend's marriage at that complex. There were three weddings going on in different corners of this complex. For Football, this place will be worse then Cooperage Ground.

There is no harm in having an alternative to Cooperage, it would also be closer to the fans homes....Some time in the future, Mumbai is likely to wake up and have more than 1 team in ileague.

If Andheri Sports Complexx is developed as a proper stadium then it could be amazing. Mumbai FC can play their home games there and good crowd can be expected too. Cooperage with capacity of only 5000 isnt much promising.

They see profit in football and they would get more profit in 18k stadium with both mfc and mcfc playing

Also dy patil is not best location for players training..

I would be eager to see how the things turn in coming months because this stadium might change lot of stuffs in football in city..

If it could host Mumbai City FC then that would be amazing!
