  • There is greed involved in that. There are rules for open spaces and construction area. So if cooperage ground is declared open area, the builders can add more floors and more construction for commercial purposes in nearby area. Heritage is one excuse-builder lobby gave money to those NGOs to make false case.Thats why they are doing that. NGOs are just excuse. The builder lobby gives money to NGO about heritage or noise pollution so that they can close down football and hockey stadium and builders can add more floors and shops nearby. There is one NGO called awaaz for noise pollution. some builder must have given money to put a case in high court against hockey and football stadium for noise pollution. their aim is to destroy all sports other then cricket so that they can make money by more construction and commercial properties.
DNA gets money from local builders.

Thats a very bad news. Police action. also case in supreme court. now that will drag on for 3-4 years atleast. Now what will happen to FIFA grant. I dont think that we will see any football action in Mumbai now. Very sad.

They need to find a place that is now willing to join hands with WIFA to make a stadium. I would hope the Gymkhana would be hoping to give up some land for this. Perhaps WIFA and Gymkhana can work an agreement in which they both form a Rugby/Football stadium. 5,000 seats, expandable to 20,000.

Designed after the Underhill Stadium in Barnet, England... http://stadiums.football.co.uk/Images/Photos/Large/75-0.jpg (6,000 capacity stadium).

Well I dont think Bombay Gymkhana will ever agree for that. Thats not even a possibility. Gymkhana is an elite club and members are same politicians and builders, businessman who will not want even cooperage stadium. Rugby in gymkhana is completely amateur, with no stands and it is perceived as open area. Main reason is high real estate and profit mentality if builders. If a space is declared open, builders can build on more more and more floors, construction-worth hundreds of crores of rupees. Once they have stands, artificial turf, it cannot be decleared open space and builders get less real estate. Also Mumbai political class and businessman class have zero love for football. Their only hope now is to ask D Y Patil stadium whether they can organise football matches there? but they have criket pitch right in middle.

  • Come on. We are talking as if there is no hope at the moment. This is Mumbai we are talking about... the biggest city in India. Are we saying that they cant make one... ONE football stadium.

That is the reason he is is talking about....
mumbai is all about money... everyone wants money....

i have a feeling that a chance to watch WC final is looking possible compared to a match at cooperage now
  • Well will the U17 World Cup help? The officials must know how much money a U17 World Cup can make, right? And FIFA wont accept the DY Patil Stadium.
