@munna219777 I have a question to you. Why Sania, Bopanna and lot of Indian players doesn't like to partner Leander. Is Leander arrogant in nature or some other professional reasons are there. If you have any knowledge about it, Please let me know.
@Rav92 @shibier Few years ago, I did post a fantastic write-up with timeline of Leander Paes controversies starting in 1990s Ramesh Krishnan, Zeeshan Ali were unhappy with him. Then famous rift involving coach Enrico Piperno, ego clash with Mahesh Bhupati, Anand Amritraj, Two sons Prakash and Steven Amritraj, Bopanna, Mirza. So many people cannot be wrong. There are accusations of him being influential in Team selection, whether it is Olympics or Davis Cup. Politically well connected, even his father used to influence team selection on TV debates. In 2016 Rio Olympics, Bopanna said no to partner him, still he forced AITA to pair up with him. Then all players including greats like Nadal reached Rio De Janeiro early to acclimitise, Leander reached Brazil barely 36 hours before the first match. Reason-he was in New York playing a private Charity match with Martina Hingis. Then players whose events are in first 2 days skip Opening Ceremony - I saw him dancing on the track. No wonder they lost the first match itself and were out. This shows poor poor commitment. Normally whenever Tennis Players leave their lucrative Circuit Tourneys for National Duties like Davis Cup, Olympics- they expect to compensate for that loss as well as to better adjust with playing some doubles tournament together. At that Time Leander avoided Indian Players. This made him unpoular. There is a very long list of his controversies. Every player starting from Ramesh Krishnan have their own can of worms.
He is the most inform Indian Men's player. If he is a World Class Player(which I feel he is) then he shouldn't have lost his match after being 15-9 up in the Decider against an unseeded player.
He really needs to be more CONSISTENT to be considered in the same bracket as Saina,Sindhu and Srikanth.
Srikanth, after the injury has not been the same player. He needs to improve his game.
Satwik Reddy and Chirag lost 23-21 in the Decider to World no. 2 pair in Men's Doubles. They have started to give tough time to seeded Opponents consistently(as I had predicted sometime back)which augurs well for our Doubles Badminton as well.
Comments
@shibier: Absolutely, Leander's passion and commitment when playing for his country is unquestionable but unfortunately his rapport with his teammates has not been that great
