Those ppl came with almost zero marketing to watch their team play. Imagine if ISL level marketing was done for I-League. Things would have been different. Also, the TRP of many I-League matches was on par with ISL. All this comes after IMG R refuses to market the league.
That is just an assumption that if "ISL level marketing" was done for the I-League then it would have been just as popular, if not better. It could be, it might not be, a lot of factors go into that including how the team themselves market each other.
From what I can see, from say a STAR Sports or even IMG-Reliance perspective, I don't find many reasons to spend money on the I-League and nor do I see much potential for a return on my investment. A club like Salgaocar or Sporting Clube de Goa don't give me much reason to invest.
Return on I-League would have been better than ISL if IMG had promoted I-League as they did with ISL. Firstly they didn't have to bring in the celebrity owners to fill in the stadiums. Apart of Goan clubs, all the teams in I-League are marketable. Remember that 2015/16 I-League match between MB and BFC had 21000 spectators in stadium and 1.2 million viewers on TV with only all the marketing on Social media by fans and clubs.
Are you talking about the I-League title deciding match that ended the 2014-15 season? What do you expect for a championship deciding match? What do Bengaluru FC average during other matches? Both BFC-MB matches last season did not draw the same.
And the clubs don't need celebrity owners but so don't most ISL teams. Do you think over 30,000 go to NorthEast United games for John Abraham? Over 30,000-40,000 to Kerala Blasters games for Sachin Tendulkar? People go to Atletico de Kolkata games for Sourav Ganguly? Delhi Dynamos don't even have a celebrity owner and they get 15,000 while FC Goa do well without their celebrity owner flaunting himself (Kohli). Mumbai City and Pune City have one each but I don't think the fans go for just Kapoor and Roshan and same for Chennaiyin. Their presence helps but they are not the selling factor and through three seasons that should be obvious by now.
Return on I-League being better than ISL if they put in the same effort is again just a theory where there are so many factors that go into it, both from a league standpoint but also from the team themselves. I do believe though that the I-League is still not as good an investment at all.
BFC had an average attendance of 10000 last season so did Shillong Lajong. EB and MB had full house at Barasaat and so did Aizawl FC at RGS. Even Mumbai FC had decent crowd at Cooperage despite lack of interest from their owners. Only DSK and Goan club had poor attandence. If I-League clubs too get the same incentives that ISL teams get, dont you think their owners will put in more effort into their teams. Currently I-League Champions get 1 Crore and no money from TV Revenue or Central Sponsorship pool.
Well we've seen with ISL that football can sell and I believe that if I-League was given same exposure as ISL, it would have been a success too.
10k for BFC's games ? No way . And i kinda agree with u . If I- League was restructured and promoted it wouldve done good. We needed more teams from places like kerala and tn in the I league. But , a restructuring was never easy especially when u have some unidimensional and egostic owners/clubs who just sits there doing nothing to create a fan base and then blame AIFF .
