Boxing Qualifiers for Asia are going to start at Qinan in China from March 23rd. India is sending a good team.
The flipside for the Indians is that even if they qualify, they could
be barred from the Olympics if a new national federation does not take
shape by the end of this month. The Association needs to conduct elections before March 31st.
Munna,Amit had been injured for a long time and still is not in his top shape,so in this tournament Rahul Aware wrestled in his category(57kg).Rahul reached the semi-finals but only 2 quota places are available in this tournament per category so one must reach the Finals in order to secure a quota place for Rio.
Bajrang wrestles in 61kg which is not an Olympic category. In Olympics ,this time there are either 57kg or 65 kg category which are around his category. In 57 kg Amit will be the first choice provided he is fully fit and in 65 kg we have Yogeshwar. So as this is Yogeshwar's last Olympics ( Yogeshwar himself said) so Bajrang will slot in this category after the Olympics.
Today is the last day of this event and we may except some positive surprises as some of our lesser known wrestlers are doing well and we may earn more than 1 quota slot today which I had earlier said.I'll update as soon as someone qualifies.
Hardeep qualifies for Rio Olympics in 98kg Greco Roman Category. However,Vinesh Phogat has lost her Semi-finals match 4-5 to her Kazakh opponent thereby failing to earn a quota place from this event.
The tournament is over and India has secured 2 qoutas from this tournament thereby making 3 in Wrestling. There are 2 more tournaments remaining so we should expect possibly 5-6 quota spots from these tournaments.
Vinesh is our best Female Wrestler. Much better then likes of Babita or Anita who can win Commonwealth but do little at Asian or World Level. As far as wrestling is concerned, the level of Commonwealth Games is very poor. Asian Games is a tough level for Female Wrestling and Olympics is the ultimate challenge. It is high time they get a good Japanese Coach or Russian Coach for Female Wrestlers.
