so how different is multi national passport..isnt it same a dual citizenship..something that Indian gov is not allowing..is he gonna work with AIFF/GOV to again enable it back
@Ronny For Dual citizenship and multinational citizenship, one needs Constitutional Amendment. You need Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha nod for that. I dont think that most India Parliament members even know who Mr Constantine is!!! It is his idea as other countries are allowing it. Lets see how it goes. It is not in AIFF hands to issue dual citizenship.
FIFA Rules on how a Foreign Born player can represent other country.
Any Player who ... [assumes] a new nationality and who has not played international football [in a match ... in an official competition of any category or any type of football for one Association] shall be eligible to play for the new representative team only if he fulfills one of the following conditions: (a) He was born on the territory of the relevant Association; (b) His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant Association; (c) His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant Association; (d) He has lived continuously for at least five years after reaching the age of 18 on the territory of the relevant Association.
Now it is upto the host country to find ways to give passport to such players. India did it successfully in the case of Izumi Arata who was eligible as his father was Indian Citizen and then he was also eligible for Indian passport because of his residence of 5 years in India. The main concern is that some NRIs do not want to leave Foreign passport. They want to hang on to their Foreign Passport. They should look at Arata that how he returned his Japan Passport.
Constantine is touching so many things and distraction which is not needed at this time. Praising ISL, Constitution Amendment for Passport/ Citizenship, Domestic Calendar while he hardly saw I-League Games ever since he was appointed Coach. His focus should be Nepal tie because he will not remain Coach if India fails to pass Nepal hurdle.
