I feel getting all parts of india onboard is a must before the merger takes place. Why not have a couple of new franchises over the next couple of years? Because once the merger happens and the league gets lengthened, the ability of the franchises to get big name has-beens will decrease. I say why not get ahmdbad or Jaipur or UP or bihar etc and get them a franchise to root for while dangling those same big name carrots in front of them. It won't truly take off unless most of india is onboard, not just the urban few. By the end of two years (pssst 3/4 years, who are we kidding? this is india!), there should be enough time for the clubs to build a decent fan following and set up their academies, youth teams and start adhering to AFC guidelines.

Lack of quality Indian players is reason number 1. We need more academies which may produce more good players.

The second would be a good football stadium. Right now,  there's not even one football specific world class stadium in India.

@Maddie Another team in Goa is bound to fail . But Kerala is a much bigger 3.5 Crore market with 90% households having TV . Kerala can support 3 ISL teams, one each in Travancore, Kochi, and Malabar regions. Maybe one more in Kannur as well. Kerala Blasters doesn't hinder anything. They've attempted to completely take over but can be challenged

To be frank yes munna, Goa can support 2-3 teams easily not only FC GOA. this year attendance in goa will be less than last year in I-league. No body supports other team than Goa. In general it is a loss for Indian football as whole. Another club or franchise cant break the market in Goa. same with KB, Kerala can support easily 2-3 teams in I-league but KB is eating up the name and opportunity of others. It is good for short term benefit but in the long term we linger with less clubs and players.

Population of Goa is 1.8 million and that of Bengaluru is 8.4 million. By @Maddie s logic,  Bengaluru will need 5-6 teams.

FYI - Bengaluru population is 1.25 croces and one more team coming from here Ozone FC.

I never bought population into equation,  I'm thinking of football culture, passion people who can support clubs. There was time in I-league, great fans in goa for Dempo, CB, SCG , SFC and Vasco SC. Where are they now ?

Long-term I see this league having over 26 teams but with the merger it will be 10-12. Keep in mind the off-field aspects as well.

As for disbanding Kerala and NorthEast... just because of there name?

Eh, probably. I don't know what I would name the Kerala Blasters and a lot of there fans come from the Northern part of Kerala and Kochi is mid-state. Only name I would like them to take on is Viva Kerala honestly. Kick-ass name that!

NorthEast United is tricky. Lets be honest, think about IMG-Reliance and think about the NorthEast. Only Shillong will probably get a team in ISL other than Assam.

By that logic, FC Goa also? Names like Bengaluru FC or Mumbai FC also block other clubs from those cities.

One city one team cap except Kolkatta. Spread the game. Don't create Chaos in the fans mind over two teams in the city unless it can cater to certain market of the region, for example MCFC if based in south and MFC in the north I don't mind.  Stabilize the game and build for future, create legacy.
